The Bush Administration and the US Congress have not 'got their act together', as the article rightly observes. But the Democrats opposing the Bush administration have still not gotten their act together. Getting their act together would have involved them charging GW Bush and his Gang with war crimes, throwing the scoundrels out of office and into prisons for life terms. Guantanamo would be an appropriate place for these criminals.
Maybe Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton/other Democratic would-be presidential candidates are sincere - or maybe not. I cannot tell.
But for sure none of them is anywhere near as competent as he/she should be in terms of understanding the reality of the world around them.

Way back on September 25th, 2001, in those very difficult days right after 9/11, at least one US citizen, a Professor Bernard Haykel of New York University, was clear sighted enough to advise that the US should avoid the trap that Osama had laid for it - that the right thing to do at that stage would be to present to the Islamic world all the evidence available that Osama's al Qaeda and the Taliban ruling Afghanistan had been responsible for that terrible crime against humankind - and to ask the Islamic community to properly punish the wrong-doers. (See "Avoid Osama's Trap", in The Hindu, 25th September 2001, http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/2001/09/25/stories/05252523.htm).
Had that advice been thought about a bit by the US powers-that-were at the time (including Senator Hillary Clinton who now claims to oppose War Criminal GW Bush) - how different the world might have been today!!
But the Stupids in the US Congress (including Hillary Clinton) and the Stupids amongst US citizens cheerfully allowed GW Bush and his Criminal Gang to have their way: first in Afghanistan; and a couple of years later, they handed GW Bush and his Criminal Gang all the powers and all the funds needed to invade Iraq - a country that was admittedly ruled by a monster, but was by no means part of the terrorist network that al Qaeda was abuilding.
Well, we've had more than 5 years of this criminal incompetence on the part of the USA. Terrorism is now part of the international fabric, probably for decades to come - after the amazingly intelligent Government of the good old YUSA has expended over US $ 600-800 BILLION (!!) on its 'WAR ON TERROR'; has killed/gotten killed over 600,000 raghead Iraqis at the cost of about 4000 heroic US soldiers; bombed a couple of nations practically back to the Stone Age; allowed the looting of Iraqi treasures of antiquity; permitted the crimes of Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, the Blackwater murders; reduced the US to international disgrace (except in the eyes of that utterly contemptible 'Coalition of the Willing' and, no doubt, Rush Limbaugh) - ignoring the real issues ahead of the world then and now: global warming; energy and resource depletion; overpopulation; and a hundred other real issues...
I do hope that somehow, someone will start trying to think things through a little more clearly in future at least. But I'm not too hopeful about this, given that no one who may be next in power in the US has as yet shown signs of even the minimum realism to acknowledge the disaster that the US with GW bUSH has caused for the world...

The latest Cary Tennis column (currently running responses) is:
"My Office Mate Lets Off Noxious Farts: I sometimes have to leave the room it's so bad! Should I say something?"
It's worth reading; and it's well worth looking at the reader input as well.
This is just for information, no hidden meanings intended.

DON'T close Guantanamo right away. First, 'render' GW Bush and his Gang of War Criminals to Guantanamo for at least one year, under the most severe conditions that any of the prisoners there have suffered.
THEN close it down...
That might start the long and slow process of restoring the USA's lost credibility as a democratic nation.
