I'll quit after this, I promise
[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]more things to support the dream theory.
Carmela says something totally nonsensical, as people are wont to do in dreams, when she and Tony are blessing out AJ for allowing the SUV to blow up. "If there were children playing in those leaves, you would have run over them". Huh? But it does fit in with Tony's preoccupation with children dying.
Tony and children again-Phils grandbabies "bump off" Phil. Poetic justice in Tony's mind.
Did you notice the sound of the *oncoming train* that can be heard during the sit-down with NY suddenly ceased when things get settled? Only in a dream.
I'm sure there is more, but I promise to keep it to myself.;)

Paulie did not get whacked
[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of course not. I apologize for a badly constructed sentence.
but there was a LOT of odd cutting and backing-and-forthing ... and the time-dimension got lost
Very indicative of a dream.
Too cute? Well then the Kevin Finnerty and talking fish eps were as well.

Dreams
[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of course we can dream scenes in which we play no part. Dreams are representations of our unconscious hopes and fears.A lovely dream I had after the death of my mother involved scenes from stories she told me of her youth. I was reassuring myself that she had a good life, despite the protracted illness she suffered from at the end.
As for the scene with Sil, I still say it represents Tony's former coma and being alseep. In Tony's mind, Sil is like him, and will come out of it just like he did.
The room. Yes it is quite possible that days have gone by since Tony first went into the bedroom. Maybe someone put sheets on the bed. But can you imagine Tony saying to someone "Hang me a little coat rack on the wall" and then not putting his jacket up there? What about the nice shiny dust free lamp in that long neglected house? And there IS a fresh coat of paint. All of it represents the comforts Tony is used to, not the reality of the room. Watch the end of 85 again.

Buckshot; plus, the value of a dream, a gift from Chase
[Read the article: "The Sopranos" goes dark]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I said in my letter that maybe Tony was killed in his sleep and that is why he doesn't wake up. We know a venal murderer and known betrayer was in the house with him.
After thinking it through, I am now convinced the finale was a dream from which Tony did not awaken.
But more than that, the dream gave us a truly deep insight into who Tony really was (as a character) deep inside. He adores his family as much as we thought he did. He wants the very best for them, for everything to work out. He has compassion, as evidenced by his treatment of June and Janice. He thinks the best of Paulie despite his prior doubts. The thought of Sil in such a condition is almost to much for him to witness. He hasn't forgotten Christopher and harbors deep regrets. He worries about and is charmed by children and pets and seeks always to take care of them. He knows he deserves to be indicted. There is much more if you watch the ep with a view towards discerning Tony's true nature.
Chase gave us a great gift. He is saying he loves Tony and that it's perfectly understandable and permissble if we do as well.
