Oh Stephanie!

I have no idea if I'll agree with your assessment, but your review is LOL hilarious!

It does sound pretentious, and your review does what needs to be done in such a situation-give a few pokes with a sharp stick.

This part:

it's as if he occasionally wanders in from his trailer to squint meaningfully or quizzically at one or another of his costars, only to retreat again

had me howling! That is exactly what it looks like to me from the trailers. Maybe he and Angelina both should start looking into making entertainment instead of constantly seeking to burnish their SERIOUS credentials-they might actually have a little success.

So?

we're just going to lose elections if we split our parties.

-- Cassia Bella

How do you think we got into this mess in the first place? Democratic politicians have been contemptuous of the base for years, admittedly not so blatantly as they have been lately, yet we continued to vote for them. What do you expect to happen when a party is assured of your vote no matter what they do? Exactly what has now occurred. When Dems voted to censure MoveOn, what they were really saying is (and could it be any clearer?): "You mean shit to us. We can condemn you with impunity. Stop bothering us, you make things, erm, uncomfortable here in our lofty, profitable seats in the gov't. You are not now nor will you ever get what you want out of us. So sit down and shut up. But keep voting for us and sending us money, cuz we are a little better than the Republicans. (Abortion!Abortion!)"

The party cannot be reformed from within. Witness how even ActBlue candidates have abandoned you. The only way to see results is to punish the party as a whole is for the base to switch allegiances, en masse, to a third party. There is nothing stopping members of the progressive caucus from switching parties and making such an effort more viable.

After watching the interview

It is clear why certain people are afraid to let Ahmadinejad speak- He is articulate and intelligent, and on top of that, he makes the neocons look like evil liars when he answers their accusations against him and his country.

If he were as stupid as he is portrayed, or he if was unable to effectively answer charges against him, they would welcome him with open arms.

Paranoia

The paranoia of some of our Jewish brethren here would be sad if it were not so frightening. Just in the last few days and because Glenn, a Jewish person himself, criticized Israel, some of the Jewish folks around here have accused the commenters of blood libel, wanting to incinerate Jews in their Synagogues, or alternatively wanting to round them up and send them to Delaware, and threatening to nuke Israel.

So we are no longer merely anti-semitic or self hating Jews anymore, we have advanced to contemplating atrocities against the Jews. We are accused of contemplating atrocities not because we have criticized Jews for being Jews, but because we have criticized the State of Israel, it's policies, and US policies in re the State of Israel.

In other words, some of you accuse some of us of wishing atrocities upon the Jews merely for disagreeing on matters of policy. You are lumping us in with Stormfronters. I resent it. I reject it. And I accuse those of you engaging in such repulsive behaviour of deliberately fomenting an atmosphere of fear in order that public discourse on all matters Israel conforms only to what right-wing Israel firsters want to hear.

Grow up. You are making yourselves appear hysterical and are certainly not winning any converts to your pov. You might get a few who mouth the right words out of fear. Is that really what you want?It appears you don't care. But with your breathless, baseless, and vile accusations against people who would never even think such things, you are definitely making it impossible to listen to a word you say on the subject. How does that help the situation?

Attention Glenn

Do you know about the Kyl Lieberman Amendmant? It's a sense of the Senate, but look at the language:

(3) that it should be the policy of the United States to combat, contain, and roll back the violent activities and destabilizing influence inside Iraq of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, its foreign facilitators such as Lebanese Hezbollah, and its indigenous Iraqi proxies;

(4) to support the prudent and calibrated use of all instruments of United States national power in Iraq, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, and military instruments, in support of the policy described in paragraph (3) with respect to the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies;

Much more @ PDF of amendment:

Sounds like a declaration of war to me. It could come up for a vote TODAY.

In the end

we will all pay the price. As history teaches us about the laws of the universe: injustices will eventually be answered. The mountains of evil and wrongdoing will fall upon our heads, regardless of whether we are personally responsible. The longer we as a country stand silently by as the horrors continue, the more complicit we become, the more we will all deserve what is to come.
