  • Here's a question. . .

[Read the article: George Bush is John McCain's Rev. Wright]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Are we going to confine the digging to Wright or are we going to look at all candidates?

ABC is running a story on how Clinton has distorted the record with regards to the "Magnaquench" factory. If it's true, this would establish a pattern of deliberate deception by Clinton about real issues in the campaign. As a voter for PRESIDENT, and not the president's pastor, I believe that this is more relevant to the concerns of the electorate. Maybe Glenn will look into this?

  • Who is this klown?

200 reputable economists have denounced this.

And yet a defense of the Panderer In Chief appears on salon.

    Anybody surprised?

  • Here's the petition against the gas tax holiday.

An Open Statement Opposing Proposals for a Gas Tax Holiday

In recent weeks, there have been proposals in Congress and by some presidential candidates to suspend the gas tax for the summer. As economists who study issues of energy policy, taxation, public finance, and budgeting, we write to indicate our opposition to this policy.

Put simply, suspending the federal tax on gasoline this summer is a bad idea and we oppose it.

There are several reasons for this opposition:

First, research shows that waiving the gas tax would generate major profits for oil companies rather than significantly lowering prices for consumers.

Second, it would encourage people to keep buying costly imported oil and do nothing to encourage conservation.

Third, a tax holiday would provide very little relief to families feeling squeezed.

Fourth, the gas tax suspension would threaten to increase the already record deficit in the coming year and reduce the amount of money going into the highway trust fund that maintains our infrastructure.

Signers of this letter are Democrats, Republicans and Independents. This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of good public policy.

    Sincerely,

  • Katetex,

    Obama "outmaneuvring" Clinton?

Perhaps in Panderville, not in the real world.

  • Did anybody else notice. . .

[Read the article: In speech, Obama looks to be a uniter]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That HRC continues to look much stronger when discussing policy than spewing talking points?

Also, that her speech sounded, in many respects, almost note-for-note the same as Obama's

  • As a high school teacher. . .

[Read the article: Give the "drunken pirate" teacher a break!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As a high school teacher, I can tell anyone who reads this thread that this is a very real and troubling phenomenon. I've been inadvertently photographed by cell phone camera, and the photo was posted online. [At least once. Probably more than once.] Although in this case the students weren't actively trying to embarass me, I was absolutely livid and let them know it. And yes, incidents like this do make highly qualified educators consider other professions.

Perhaps Gorby DID address his correspondence to Nancy because Reagan was - how do we put it? - senile for a good chunk of his second term?

It is a fact that Nancy wanted important U.S.-Soviet negotiations to be held at certain times because of *astrology.* Star wars indeed.

Perhaps McGovern called Bill because Hillary is too busy in West Virginia?

    Thanks for the mathematical analysis.

Please put your skills to work showing us how Hillary intends to win the nomination.

    Why/Why not?

    Anyone?

    Bueller?

  • Blech. . . here it comes again.

The dreaded "misogyny" talking point. It's predictable, boring, and probably (unfortunately) still somewhat effective bludgeon used to smash reasonable discourse.

Clinton consistently gets the sympathy vote when she screams "Meanie boys ganging up." Less than a week ago her surrogates were discussing her uniquely, overly male anatomy. Which is it?

ONE reason why so much pressure is being placed on CLinton to leave now?

Because Kennedy and other sour-grapes candidates helped their party to LOSE in November! That's the motivation here. Clinton and her surrogates before reinforce the terrible old steretype that girls don't do as well in math class. It's incorrect, but she is promoting it.

I happily voted for Bev Purdue for Governor of NC, by the way.

  • How can anyone?

[Read the article: Clinton writes to Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

How can anyone not condemn the following statement as an outright lie?

"I have consistently said that the votes cast in Florida and Michigan in January should be counted. We cannot ignore the fact that the people in those states took the time to be a part of this process and to make their preferences known."

Here's what the official Clinton press release said before Obama started winning:

"We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the nominating process.... We believe the DNC's rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role. Thus, we will be signing the pledge to adhere to the DNC approved nominating calendar."

Here's what CLinton told an NPR audience about the Michigan [un]election: "It's clear, this election [Michigan is] having is not going to count for anything."

She damns herself, no commentary necessary.

  • Let's get realistic about this.

I think Hillary Clinton needs to call the Ultimate Superdelegate.

    Santa Claus.

At least he exists in the same world in which she could possibly win.

  • Don't forget. . . .

[Read the article: McAuliffe: "I don't see it going to the convention"]

The Clinton campaign patented The Portable Goalpost.

I wouldn't trust McAuful as far as I could kick him.

  • I'm happy too.

REM was the band that made me get an electric guitar. They were a soulmate through the hard years of teendom. Decades later their albums comforted me through a painful divorce. For me, an important band.

This album makes me happy not because of what radio stations play it, but for a much more important reason. Around the Sun was a steaming hunk of poo, notable for how much Stipe had become a parody of himself and little else. Accelerate is simply a great album, in the mold of their earlier work.
