kstone and ignorance of race...
[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Given that Obama got within 2% of Hilary in Indiana is astounding. There is no state with more blue collar people who have racist tendencies or have never met a black person north of the Mason-Dixon line. Add to that the number of ditto-heads who were part of the operation chaos and the 250K new voter registrations it means even Indiana is in play for the GE.
I am astounded by the old farmers and country folk who do support Obama...for whatever reason-they are not a bunch of completely ignorant folk and are able to recognize something that has surprised me. Part of it might be an anti-Hilary sentiment that can't be ignored, but 250k new voters means that 90% are democrats who have decided to be involved in the system...which I thank Hilary for.
Indiana at the local level has been turning Republicans out of office and become rather purple...which is an opportunity that NO Democratic presidential candidate has enjoyed in 50 years.

@deloresflower...if it were that simple...you are naive or ignorant
[Read the article: Can Democrats learn to talk about race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't disagree with the general sentiment of your position-obviously these distinctions are social, but it doesn't get us very far in understanding. The problem is that it completely ignores history and issues of class. The problem with race in this country isn't that there are morons who are part of the Klan or good liberals who feel self-satisfied because they can look down on rednecks who say nigger or a presidential candidate who did or didn't say something.
It is incredibly unfortunate that this forum can only discuss the issue of whether Hilary might be a closet Klan member It let's ALL OF off the hook by letting us point fingers and be self-righteous. Instead of asking questions about the environment and carbon trading or how the middle class is defined we are worried about complete BS.
The question of school funding and how the middle class is defined is SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT. Not to mention the criminal justice system.

@emphasis...thank you for pointing the obvious fact
[Read the article: Can Democrats learn to talk about race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Black voters will vote for him for the reasons many have stated. However, white voters are not bound by that imperative, he is not the first of them (white candidate) that rises to this potential, so they need more than platitudes, and a more thorough explanation of who he is."
Wow, no point in bringing facts to bear on this....niggers are irrational because they lack the catagorical imperative of rational white people who obviously see things clearly. One would think if you read any of the posts you might have thought about the problem of white ...oh never mind

@sesanders
[Read the article: Can Democrats learn to talk about race?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]give me a freakin break. ya there are dorks who say crazy stuff....but when you say,
"I have always felt that Democrats are exceptional people... tolerant, inclusive, fair, and insightful. My opinion has been sharply challenged for the last few months and I don't know whether I will be able to go back to Camelot, so to speak. Perhaps that is as it should be but my eyes have been opened."
Fair? How about sounding like an autistic kid and saying "Farahkan" or Ayers during a debate after Obama gives her a pass on Serbia? How about trying to overtly trying to "connect" Jesse Jackson with Obama, which is offensive on SOOO many levels. So them "coloreds" that voted for Jesse are to be dismissed? (They aren't obviously the neighbors to his headquarters in Harlem.) It denigrates Jesse, who I assumed was an ally-which again shows a lack of class and political acumen. What signal did that send to other AA politicians-particularly AA when they see him willing to throw Jesse under the bus?? Not a good political move, but guided by emotion and craven self-interest. That is the betraying impulse!
The comment was meant to completely marginalize Obama rather than discuss the issues...which is massive leadership failure. As many people I was on the fence between Obama and Hilary, but her behavior and willingness to pander says much about her ability to lead.

@Uncle Fester...how does such trash talk make it as editors choice?
[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Amazing bunch of namecalling bullocks is fingered as important?
Believe me it is easy to under estimate the ignorant white folk...which I find an odd sentiment for a Hilary supporter. I am guessing I am one of the few Indiana people here. Despite all the spin, that a black man came within 2% points is AMAZING. Try to find a state with more KKK members and no black politicians. The demographic distribution of Indiana in the white suburbs, the white rural areas and the apathetic urban areas only shows that he got wide support and is part of the process of making Indiana a purple state.

@shawnwb...how much does the republican party and rush pay you?
[Read the article: Was Hillary channeling George Wallace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]oh wait, no you are troll living in your parent's basement busy reading Ayn Rand and beating the bishop. Your "facts' about Indiana are wrong, but most interestingly....your racist views of the region shows what a racist you are. I can't figure out why Joan doesn't "prune" this forum

Delusion and arguing with delusion...
[Read the article: What should Hillary Clinton do now?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not sure what good it does. I think it helped Obama and the Democratic party in Indiana because of the voter registration, but eventually it has not be about ME ME ME and causing chaos. What is the deal with everyone shedding any credibility in a pointless exercise? Talk about drinking the Kool-Aid.
I will ask again Joan...what about class?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]What you said!
"Has Joan Walsh ever written anything original or incisive or creative? When was the last time? Is there anything in these blogs that anyone hasn't already heard about, or read about?"
Ya, despite complaints about her bias etc. this question cuts to the quick!
