Why Vick and not molester priests, and other Vick musings
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]From what I recall, the henious coverups by corrupt Catholic Church officials of molester priests was a HUUUUUUGE story in the media for a long time. Given the age of the story and the weight of other events (wars, genocides, Executive branch officials wiping their asses with the Bill of Rights, etc.), it's not hard to understand why this still ongoing controversy is not still on the front pages nationwide.
Yes, individual priests do/did not receive the same level of national scrutiny that Michael Vick is getting now for his alleged babarism toward animals, but then keep in mind that those priests/bishops/cardinals/etc. aren't nearly the celebrities that Vick is. They were at most local or regional figures, so it's not all that surprising that there wasn't a national demand for action against each individual. Vick, on the other hand, is known everywhere in the US, and has been held up by many as someone we're supposed to admire.
Find me a (white) bishop that has a multimillion shoe endorsement deal (or the equivalent) but who didn't get media scrutiny, and I'll jump on your "the MSM doesn't care about priest molesters" bandwagon. Until then, sorry, your argument is just plain silly.
My guess on this is that Vick is guilty as sin, but the feds are more interested in flipping him to pull down even bigger players on the dogfighting scene. I'm sure there's a significant connection between dogfighting and drugs and gangs, and they're ramping up the pressure big time on Vick to get him to cooperate. This is probably one of those once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for law enforcement, and they're clearly throwing deep, so to speak.
Given how much Vick has to lose (and has already lost), that'd be a pretty big incentive to play ball with the feds. Won't exactly help his street cred, tho.

name change
[Read the article: Apple sells 3 billion iTunes songs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]With all the Apple news, why not change the name of the column to Mac-hinist? Or just drop the -hinist part?
Mind you, I'm a big mac geek and all, but c'mon. :-P

Does your wife hate her cellphone?
[Read the article: My wife is terrible on the cellphone!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hate, hate my cell phone. I'm a pretty technical person, but not a gadget person. The latest buttons and bells don't thrill me anymore. They did when I was 20 but I'm 40 now and it's lost the allure.
My husband has for years patiently told me when I'm shouting into the cellphone, or worse, breathing like Darth Vader into the misplaced microphone. I've tried. I just haven't ever gotten the hang of holding the tiny, little thing in the right place so that I can both hear and feel like I'm being heard.
To make matters worse, I don't like people to bug me. Don't get me wrong. I'm a very social person. But if I'm driving home from work or running errands, they can wait. After all I have an office phone, a home phone, and two email accounts. Isn't that enough already?
So here's what I've decided. I got a new phone (one that doesn't make the ear-crushing beep when the signal dies) and it's going straight into the glove box of my car. The message will say "You've reached my cell phone. It's in the glove box of my car. Don't leave a message." When I want to make a call, I'll take the phone out of the glove box (preferably not while driving), make my call, and put it back. And to spare my husband the annoyance of my cellphone as well, from now on I'll call from the land line at my desk before I leave the office to say I'm on my way home.
Less hassle all the way around! Hope that helps you both, too.

[Read the article: The artful seducer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hate to break it to you, but the guy you "dated" for 8 weeks without him making a move, even a kiss?
He may not have known it then, maybe not even now, but he's gay. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.

college?
[Read the article: Chaste women + promiscuous men = impossible]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The median for men was 7 and for women was 4?
Did they leave out all the people who attended college or something? Cuz when I was there, the 7 and 4 numbers would be the campus medians for the freshman fall semester. ;-)

it *was* meant to go like this
[Read the article: That explains everything]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is anyone investigating the possibility that this outcome is EXACTLY what they expected and wanted? That maybe it was the gateway to war with Iran, the ultimate Oceania v. Eurasia scenario desired by the Military-Industrial Complex? Or something else, but that this was all ON PURPOSE?
I've been saying this for a while. Right now, I'm working on the following assumptions:
-- Saudi Arabia wanted our military bases out of their territory
-- The Bush administration knew that Afghanistan was not a suitable long term home for new bases
-- US military bases in Iraq, while vulnerable, are ideally situated to throw Iran's political evolution into disarray and repress Iranian reform (something the Saudis desperately want to NOT happen)
-- The Bush adminstration, the Saudis, and the other big players on the oil market want Iraq's oil to STAY IN THE GROUND
Were Iraq's oil assets to flood the market (as Saddam was hoping to do, using Euros as his base currency, no less), it would greatly drive down prices. If it were to succeed, it would potentially threaten the stranglehold that the Saudis and the oil industry hold over us all.
Therefore, the bigger the quagmire in Iraq, the longer it'll be before we see that Iraqi crude. And the longer the Saudis own our asses. On the bright side, oil executives and military contractors are getting filthy rich on the blood of countless thousands of innocents. Oh, and they've managed to stir up the angriest hive of hornets on the planet that will plague the Middle East and Western societies for generations.
See what happens when we "elect" oil men to the presidency?
