  • Why?

[Read the article: Politicizing the terrorist plot]

Why do you hate America, Glen?

  • More Miho

[Read the article: Miho Hatori has a favorite]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Sad about the ballot stuffing!

But, hey, let's talk about my girl Miho Hatori for a minute. Cibo Matto rocked my socks. I even liked that Brazilian jazz thing she did with Smokey Hormel. The people cry out: give us more Miho!

  • feminist ideology the new "ideal"?

[Read the article: Do big boobs boost self-esteem?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is a danger in making steadfast traditional feminist ideology the new "ideal" women have to adhere to. Should a woman not undergo breast augmentation simply because to do so would strip her of feminist cred? Would it make her a sellout? Should she feel bad about it?

I do agree that women - and to a far lesser but still alarming degree, men - are under a lot of pressure to conform to a nonsensical bodily ideal. I hate the thought of people getting so wrapped up in that bad cultural undertow that it moves them to alter themselves simply to escape the misery of being outside the ideal. At the same time, I think we ought to recognize that there may be perfectly good and acceptable motivations for altering oneself.

If a mature and emotionally together flat-chested woman goes out and gets augmented to a B-cup because wants to be able to shop off the rack and have her clothes fit better, I'm not going to knock it, nor am I going to pretend that she's some kind of horrible victim of society's misogynistic bullshit.

  • embed code messed up!

[Read the article: "Tasting Rachael Ray"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I tried to embed this video into my blog only to discover that the code provided is incomplete. Salon tech wizards? Can you help?

  • embed tags update

[Read the article: "Tasting Rachael Ray"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Sorry to alarm anyone (all 3 people who use the embed tags here). I discovered that my previous comment about the embed code not working was a bit premature. Turns out, the code is truncated in Safari, but not in Firefox. Go figure.

  • nonsense

[Read the article: The problems with iTunes Plus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The name and email address has always been there in the file's metadata. Nothing new has happened. I think there's just a whole lot of whining going on here. I think it's a perfectly reasonable approach to discouraging the casual sharing of these tracks on p2p networks - totally without impeding your ability to do whatever else you want to do with it.

The higher bitrate doesn't sound a lot better than the previous one? Seems to me like the people who complained so bitterly about the lower bitrate for the last few years should take note of this fact: 128-bit AAC sounds pretty gosh darned good.

I'm not too pleased with the price increase of single tracks, but at least album prices haven't increased.

All things considered I think there's entirely too much bitching about nothing going on.

  • should be legal

[Read the article: A new kind of sex tourism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Prostitution should be legal and regulated. Laws against it only make a dark, scary underground criminal economy...and do nothing whatsoever to stop the practice itself.

Bringing children into it is a red herring. Sex with anyone below the age of consent is, and will always remain, a crime.

  • OMG! Viagra!

[Read the article: Viagra for women?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Where's the tirade against Viagra? Isn't it just an excuse to "medicalize" men's sexual issues? Doesn't it just let us blame him--rather than his partner?

Come on, Salon. A little equity, please, before you go off like this.

  • not on Amazon

[Read the article: What's that enchanting MacBook Air ad song?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Good call Farhad! Incidentally, the single is not available as an Amazon MP3 download, so don't bother looking. I myself just bought it off iTunes and am toying with the notion of making a ringtone out of it...

  • NO...but...

[Read the article: A vaccine for gentlemen]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If the vaccine is solely to prevent a disease he cannot get, then no. I would not want him to receive it. I would rather give the vaccine to those who are directly at risk of disease. if it truly is safe and effective at preventing things he might be at risk for himself, then yes, I definitely would do it.

All of this presupposes that the vaccine would be given to girls at a young age as a semi-mandatory type of deal like we give other vaccines: an expected and routine part of pediatric health care. If it's not like that, if it's a situation where the girls are hit-or-miss whether they receive it or not, that does change things. In that instance I might want him to have it even if he himself is not at risk of any disease.
