No Alito fight might be best for the Democrats.
[Read the article: Mixing messages on Alito]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A fight over Alito is just what the Republicans would love to have. It would energize their base, and keep the public eye off Republican corruption and Bush's Iraq malfeasance.
Alito could hang himself during confirmation hearings, but until then it's up to the Dems to appear statespersonlike and clean as a whistle. Moves like pointing out the Republican Congress' cover-up of the Bush Iraq debacle are the way to go for now.

Two Step Process
[Read the article: America's shadow army in Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Step one: Withdraw the troops.
Step two: Defund the war.
Is there another way out?
-
Question I'd like to hear asked of the Republican candidates
[Read the article: What you missed while watching "Dancing With the Stars"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Gentlemen, President George W. Bush has been in office now for over six years. In your opinion, how's he doing?
-
So can Iraq handle it's own security after all?
[Read the article: A timetable for withdrawal? How about "a few decades"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If they're planning for it only under the threat of abrupt withdrawal, maybe this is just another reason to actually do it. Sounds like they won't "stand up" until the US "stands down".

Oh nooooooooooo!
[Read the article: Goodbye to Audiofile]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now what am I gonna do for new music? I've loved this feature from the beginning, and really appreciated the insights, news and of course the free downloads. You've really opened my eyes and ears to new things over the years. I'm bummed. Thanks for the memories...

Can this be stopped?
[Read the article: Fred Hiatt, Michael Ledeen and the "bomb Iran crazies"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Even Dennis Miller was on Leno last night beating the drum for war with Iran. The audience didn't appear to find it particularly funny, and Leno just changed the subject. But obviously, Miller got the memo and did his job.
Somehow, somebody's got to slam the door on this idea before it's too late.

Democrats caving again
[Read the article: A surrender before the fight begins?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Saw Jane Harman (D-CA) on CSPAN last night touting a compromise bill on Iraq funding. Apparently she's under the impression that the reason the Congress' poll numbers are so low is that "we're [Congress is] fighting each other rather than getting things done". No Jane, it's because you're not fighting enough.
We're doomed.

Housekeeper wanted?
[Read the article: Men on eHarmony seem obsessed with women who are "clean"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can't help put think these guys want someone who'll clean their house as part of the deal. That was my first thought. Someone who IS clean, WILL clean.

Anti-choice votes and Pollitt
[Read the article: Let the voting begin]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wondering why Pollitt chastises Biden for his anti-choice votes, but not Kucinich for his.
-
It's Rock Around Barack
[Read the article: At least they didn't remake "Jeremy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just FYI.
-
Agreed.
[Read the article: "No, You Can't"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They're all better than Rock Around Barack.
-
This could be a warning
[Read the article: What will John Lewis do?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to Clinton that, while he supports her now, if she in some way forces this to be decided at the convention in an undemocratic way, he's switching sides.
-
Bush's urgency
[Read the article: George Bush told the truth yesterday]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Bush needs the telcoms to get immunity now, because not only will his lawbreaking be disclosed, but as the suits drag on into 2009 and beyond he could be compelled to testify as he'll no longer be a sitting President.

Good morning Vietnam
[Read the article: A solution to McCain's Panama problem, with Obama's support]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A lot of mixed-race people in Southeast Asia will be quite happy about this development.
Welcome all new Americans! The more the merrier I say.

Dogs chose us too
[Read the article: The cat whisperer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Great article. Anything encouraging people and pets to know each other a little better, I'm all for.
One disagreement I have is on the notion that we humans chose dogs, rather than the reverse.
My understanding of the latest science is that, like cats, wild dogs began to follow humans and haunt encampments looking for the easy meal. Like with cats, selection favored dogs with the least fear of humans. And since canine behavior emphasizes group welfare, team hunting and other human-like traits, they eventually became our partners and pets. So rather than humans turning wolves into dogs, wolves probably made their own "choice" in the matter.

Following the Clinton playbook
[Read the article: New McCain video: "Obama Love"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Hillary Clinton campaign did the same thing, with help from Saturday Night Live, and got a break (however brief) from the media. The McCainites are trying to do what she did to take Obama down. But somehow they're forgetting that she didn't win with that strategy.

Inside humor
[Read the article: New McCain Web ad mocks Obama as false Messiah]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Comes across like the McCain campaigners are creating this stuff for their own amusement. Can't imagine why they are spending good money on this instead of try to sell JM. Oh yeah...never mind.
