  • Bush's Domesctic/Galactic Agenda

[Read the article: Two long years to go]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think we can all agree that he is as serious about reducing oil consumption, and easing the burden on healthcare costs as he is about sending a man to Mars.

Remember his nonsense about Mars? Well, let's make fun of him for this. It shows how full of it he is.

    What a lunatic.

  • examples

[Read the article: Why is Brit Hume treated like a real journalist and news anchor?]

really. can anyone find a single example where he said something complementary about a dem or negative about bush, etc.

  • Dear Heather,

Please stop watching bad tv, then telling us about it.

  • Nonsense

    [Read the article: Various matters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Professor Ward Churchill in no way celebrated 9/11. Don't repeat right wing propaganda just so you can "catch" a rightwinger on it, it just supports the very ideas the rightwingers believe.

  • Agreed

How come I knew? I read salon every day as my main source of info, and it was very plainly evident that the war hype, wmd & ties to terror, was just that, political hype.

Now the story is, "why didn't we know?" Well, we did, we just were inclined to look the other way.

  • Money or Morality?

[Read the article: The Coulterization of the American right]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is a great article, and it dovetails nicely with Greenwald's piece from last week.

Kamiya says that the right's "ideology has always been incoherent, deeply divided between its libertarian, free-market wing and its traditionalist, 'values' wing." I agree, however, these are not two equal, competing ideals. Instead, we have a divide between the actual motivations behind the conservative/republican leaders (money, money & more money) and the BS they talk about to rally the support of their base (morality).

Do you really think Dick Cheney or Paul Wolfowitz would turn down a business deal because of morality issues? (hint: Iraq)

The advice given by Cary Tennis has become weaker and weaker. I believe he has become afraid of giving the wrong advice, so each column advises people to relax and eh, blah, eie, whatever. He refuses to say anthing that could be confused with conviction. Remember, this is a column read by many(?), not a one-on-one therapy session with a suicidal patient.

To Cary Tennis: "Say something, you chicken"

  • tired genre

[Read the article: "I Think I Love My Wife"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

My goodness, do people still enjoy this weak honeymooners crap? I get it: "I hate my wife (, but after being a jerk and disrespecting her...I guess I really love her...shh)."

    I LIKE my wife.

  • "Most Liberal" is not a slur

[Read the article: Coloring in Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Guess what, I'm voting for the "most liberal" democratic candidate. That is what a liberal does. It doesn't vote for the biggest wimp who champions right wing causes in an effort to appease the very same people who think "liberal" and "traitor" are interchangeable.

Let's be proud of our liberalness and our vision.

  • Gore?

[Read the article: Swooning over Gore]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Are you kidding. He ran, he lost (or rather he did not become president). He was a bad candidate who was ashamed his liberal views. He is stiff and lame. I admire his enviornmental positions, but why didn't he really promote those when he ran.

Gore, Kerry, H. Clinton... all the same tired, "afraid of offending the oppisition", middle of the road, no-vision democrats.

No wonder I have no party affiliation. Until dems become bold and proud I won't join them.

  • Context, context, context

[Read the article: Who gets to use the N word?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am a white man. I use the word "nigger" sometimes in conversation. I don't ever call anyone that or refer to someone as that, but it is a word and it has a definition.

I am free to use all words.

The idea that this word (or any word) alone is bad, and shouldn't be uttered is ridiculous and disturbing.

Let's all be adults and think and talk.

  • this person is an expert?

[Read the article: The losers' circle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Kolata is quick to discount the effect of environmental factors on obesity, pointing out that low-income kids enrolled in a school program about healthy eating didn't lose much weight."

Ever been to a "school program about healthy eating?" Sounds facinating. Obviously all these poor children attended the program, educated their parents about "healthy" eating, arranged new money for the family to go grocery shopping the "right way." Maybe the kid even convinced a supermarket chain to open up a couple of blocks from their home.

I can only imagine the frustration these children must feel after putting in all this work, only to find they can't lose those last 10 pounds.

  • NO GORE.

[Read the article: Gore in 2008?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Please. Why would any self-respecting liberal vote for this guy? He was a coward when he ran in 2000 (ran as a conservative, distanced himself from a popular clinton in an effort to appeal the the same people who think democrats are traitors). He is a loser, who played a losing game in 2000. Whether he actually received more votes than bush, he lost by running a fearful campaing, then was completely outmuscled by bush in the post election fight.

my god. the enviornment? sure, but why didn't he run on this in 2000? It's easy to FINALLY grow a backbone when you have nothing to lose.

The only possible worse candidate is John Kerry, for almost the exact same reasons.

  • carter, mondale, dukakis, clinton, gore, kerry

[Read the article: Gore in 2008?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

dull, dull, dull, NOT dull, dull, dull

Guess which one of these democratic candidates actually won?

The left (& Dems) need to capture the imagination of our country. This is what leadership is. Gore simply cannot do this.

  • Gore as candidate.

[Read the article: Gore in 2008?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I have two reasons for not wanting gore to run. One, I believe this is poor strategy: running a one-time loser when the democrats need to establish an actual identity. Two, I don't like his politics. Unlike many democrats, I don't believe the envoirnment and restoring america's global image are the only issue on the table. Gore is a longtime member/leader of the Democratic party that abandoned their base, the working people of america. He has pushed "welfare reform", increased globalization, and corporate dominance. Sure he's a classy guy, but he's certainly not, and has never been a progressive.

  • classism

[Read the article: The littlest shoppers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This baby einstein nonsense is based on the presumption that classical music (created by rich, white, european men) is inherently "intellegent", but other types of music are not (rap, rock, polka?).

Maybe we should adorn our toddlers in powdered wigs, too.
