  • It's not scary, really.

[Read the article: The stay-at-home mystique]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Actually, I found this interview to be horrifying. Is this what has become of the social revolution of the 60's? Jerky, distant dads, and dutiful, homemaker moms?

My wife and I (just married) plan on having kids pretty soon. We both both work. No, we don't "need to work" for economic or for psycological reasons. We just work, because thats what people do. We share responsibilities around our home, and plan to both raise our kids.

I refuse to conceed that the ideal way to raise a child is to stay at home. Does going to daycare, or grandma's a few days a week mean that they aren't loved? What exactly are children losing by growing up with their mom and dad both working? Wouldn't it be better if we all were active participants in society? Not just the society of our immediate family and neighbors, but all of society?

We feel our children will benefit from our both working: spending time and with their relatives, other kids at day care, learning some self-reliance, etc. Perhaps some of the "crazy" things going on in society are more about average American families being isolated from the rest of the world. "I raise MY kids, we have OUR own jungle gym in our back yard, we have OUR enormous car with DVDs playing in the headrest. We can't be bothered with OTHER people's problems"

Sorry, I don't find choosing to be a stay at home mom the "right thing to do," rather I veiw it as sort of selfish. Trust me your kids will be fine.

  • jobs americans don't want to do

[Read the article: Immigration's race card]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    There is no such thing.

It should be "jobs Americans don't want to do at extremely low wages"

If migrant farming paid a living wage, it wouldn't be such a bad job.

  • foreign aid

[Read the article: Why foreign aid doesn't work]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Poverty will never be eradicated simply by the good will of the rich. The poor themselves must organize to oppose the repressive policies of the rich. This holds true for international poverty as well as poverty in the US.

The World Bank and "Foreign Aid" are largly measures to control poorer countries and their natural resources.

Let's stop supporting dictators and corrupt corporations, then we will see people all around the world living better lives.

i have no idea why this clip is interesting, or what it means...

  • "axis of evil is still pretty evil"? please

[Read the article: Missile? What missile?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So, it appears that the Bush admin's "Axis of Evil" PR campaign has been a rousing success. How else do you explain "liberal" blogs using the "A of E" nonsense to attack Bush. There is no axis of evil. Rather, just a few countries of dark people that the U.S. doesn't control.

If North Korea, Iran and Venezuela (soon to be added to the neocons list of "evil" countries) are not allowed to have viable militaries, why are we?

Remember, America is the country doing all the invading these days.

    the left no longer exists...

lefty bloggers are mad at Bush for not "preemptively" attacking another country.

This is why the retaliator gets more punishment than the provoker.

    please, enough about joe lieberman.

he sucks. that's why he lost.

    ignore him.

  • Shut up, you big baby.

[Read the article: I want my foie gras!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You poor man, not being able to eat whatever you want to eat for whatever reason.

Yes, you're against animal testing and hunting for 'sport'...but, you FOR these very same things as long as you get to eat the corpse.

    Mange!

  • This is a good thing.

[Read the article: New Jersey Supreme Court: State must allow same-sex unions]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The NJ Supreme Court ruled in favor of liberal principles. Let's celebrate!

Instead of worrying about how the right will use this good thing to rally their troops, let's try to frame this issue ourselves. When was the last time a promenant democrat said anything in broad support for gay and lesbian Americans? As long as the left is afraid to succeed (lest the right will use it against us) the country will continue to drift to the right, regardless who wins in November.

  • Political Activism Wins Again

[Read the article: The GOP's dwindling anti-gay parade]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Remeber when some liberals were upset with activists pushing gay marraige? They said that this only emboldened conservatives, and in fact hurt their cause. Well, these critics were wrong. Change never comes from passive, hopeful patience.

    1) Activist push their cause (which I beleive benefits everyone)

    2) The opposition freaks out ("end of times")

    3) The general population seems resistant to change (what else is new)

    4) Over time, as people absorb the idea of this change, they realize that it's no big deal, and accept it

    Another victory for pushy activists!

  • Queen Latifah ??

[Read the article: "Stranger Than Fiction"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"The wonderful Queen Latifah is wasted, cast as the tough-talking, sassy black sidekick"

Note to self: never watch this movie.

  • "You've been a great friend, now go ahead and kill me, ya big lug..."

[Read the article: Diary of a turkey killer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I find it odd that the author and some letter writers suggest that domesticated animals somehow agree to be killed.

My guess is, Harold had no idea this woman wanted to kill and eat him.

  • Dixie Chicken

[Read the article: Yes, Democrats do need the South!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I agree that Democrats should not ignore the South. However, it is well past time that the Dems stop being afraid of offending rightwing conservatives (aka much of the south). You can't lead if your ashamed of your own vision.

  • the worst foreign policy debacle in U.S. history

[Read the article: Salvaging Bush's Mideast disaster]

If my memory serves me, the whole Vietnam thing didn't go that well either.

  • think your co-workers are shallow?

[Read the article: The Gen Xers are driving me crazy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

then don't work for a shallow for-profit company.

btw...you sound selfish and shallow by thinking that non-profits are "naive and outdated"

  • I've never sold my house to a phony corporation, have you?

[Read the article: Exposé or just innuendo?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yes, the Post has lost it's way (now it is mearly a Washington insider rag). However, it is not odd for a newspaper to do a story on a presidential candidate selling his house to a temporary "corporation" owned by players in the healthcare industry.

While Edwards is no longer a senator, he is a powerful insider with many connections (and another presidental run).

Perhaps this is not on the level of Haliburton, but let's demand integrity from all of our "leaders", not just Republicans.

  • Lie to your daughter?
