Another chickenhawk?

Looks like the Judge and the Shrub share at least one thing: the ability to obtain a position in the National Guard when others could not. Somebody should take a look at that.

Wouldn't this be a great time

For someone to cook up a list of all the justifications used when they impeached our last (elected) president for ... what was it again? Lying about sex? There must be some great quotes from the republican side of the aisle that would support impeachment on these, far more serious, grounds.

Original article: You don't know Jack?

Tonia nailed it

Jack is anything but random. I first heard the format while working in LA and it was entertaining for about a day. Then it started to repeat. And repeat. The automated DJ, the disco-new wave playlist, it all began to grate very quickly. Jack is just as formatted as any other station and it's not even a very good format.

You want random, for real? Check out Super Shuffle (channel 12 on Sirius.)

The Bacon Brothers?

Somebody booked them for the Philadelphia Folk Festival a few years back. Put them at the top of the bill on opening night too. They were not very good actually, and some folks in the crowd heckled them by yelling out requests for "Footloose" or something from Tremors or Animal House. So it was an entertaining performance after all.

Wow, talk about missing the point.

Maybe the reviewer needs to calibrate her expectations regarding children’s entertainment. I mean, if you want gourmet meal, opening a can of Dinty Moore beef stew is probalby not the best place to start. And if you want intellectual stimulation, maybe cartoons aren't your best choice. I'm sure the intended audience will love it. I’m just wondering why Salon would even bother to review it. Do a lot of 8 year olds read Salon?

I did not mean to imply ...

That I was not stimulated by cartoons, but rather than analyze the narcissism and perhaps even existentialistm of Daffy Duck, I just laugh my ass off. Sorry.

One can only hope

"Meanwhile, did everybody hear the great news today? Jimmy Swaggart ... under investigation. (Cheers) Oh Jayszuz! One day every one of those c**ks**kers will get caught..."

What's missing here tonight?

My routine has been disrupted by the new posting policy. I was really expecting to see, well, you know...

Friday, September 28, 2007 12:01 PM

Am I the only one who remembers ...

The republican talking point to the effect that "when a Republican gets caught doing a nasty, dirty thing we throw them out, when a democrat does that he's re-elected".

I know I heard Delay say it and there were others as well. I guess that's 'no longer operative'.

Original article: Playing soldier

Been there, done that...

I made the 'run to the wall' once. After a few of the speakers expounded on the need to go back to 'Nam and get our POW/MIAs back and a few more about how "we woulda' won if the politicians and those damn hippies didn't ruin everything", I had to leave. Never went back, never went on any other big runs.

My next door neighbor was up at 6:00 am on Sunday, idled his bike a good 20 minutes before gunning it repeatedly and taking off for DC, once he was sure he woke up the entire neighborhood. He is not a biker (he's had the bike for six months, but he's had the t-shirts for years) nor a vet. Just another guy who needs to be a badass somewhere. Somewhere his wife isn't yelling at him to take out the trash.

Whatever it started out as, Rolling Thunder is just another badass wannabee poser fest, like just about every other big Harley run. And if all those jaggoffs are vets I'm the king of Mars. I met three or four Viet Nam vets there who were younger than me and I'm 50. (Do the math patriots)

@Hifalutin

Cars has lots of soul, I really didn't understand that comment in the review at all. My son is 25, I bought that movie for me. Maybe it's because I'm a car guy, a retired biker, or maybe because my dad loved the backroads and took the family on many side trips through places that are now bypassed by the interstates. I can't say, but I found Cars a wonderful expression of what makes road trips so much fun. The only thing missing: why no motorcycles? A Harley named Earl would have been perfect for Radiator Springs.

@Karenn22

As opposed to McCain's (or Hillary’s?) principled and consistent stands on ... what exactly?

Hillary lost, time to get over it.

Saturday, July 12, 2008 07:44 AM

@Karen22

I brought Hillary into the conversation because, well, I don't know, maybe your posting history? You know, stuff like 'Hillary will win', 'Hillary is electable' and my particular favorite 'Obama does not deserve any Michigan delegates'.

Are you saying you don't have an ax to grind and that you think Obama is so diffent from any other politician?

Or that Hillary is? By all means point me to the politician who doesn't try to appeal to both sides on most issues during an election year. As always we are left with choosing the lesser of two evils, so what are you going to do? Vote for a few more intellectual giants on the supreme court like Thomas and Scalia? Bush is living proof that no matter how depressing these choices are, they do have consequences. Stop fighting the last battle and think about the future.

Shari Lewis would feel right at home

@WylieD

"When an Obama volunteer shows up at my door reciting talking points written by a committee of professional campaign advisors, is that deceitful?"

If you really can't understand the difference, ask yourself this: did they identify themselves as campaign workers or did they pretend to be something else? (I find it hard to believe that all republican supporters are THAT stupid, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.)

The Post Turtle survives...

I can't claim to be the first person to say this, but Sarah Palin is like a turtle on a fence post. She didn't get where she is on her own, she doesn't belong there, doesn't look comfortable there, can't do anything useful there and it leaves you to wonder "what kind of asshole would put her there?".
