Oh, great. For years we audiophiles have used the term "sweet spot" to describe, well, that sweet listening spot in a stereo setup. Now we'll have to be careful during public conversation lest people get the wrong impression.
When I first heard that the Mallard had been repowered with turboprops, my thought was, "Gee, for X amount of its life, this plane had the benefit of smoother gas turbines instead of the original vibration of piston engines. How much sooner would it have failed with the original power?" I guess in my head was, this aircraft is rated for X amount of power and/or airspeed, and the new engines would not exceed (or be within the limits of) these parameters.
Thanks for clearing up (or pointing out) some misinformation I've been carrying around in my brain.
"...haven't Will (Eric McCormack) and Grace (Debra Messing) sort of been grating on your nerves more and more every time you tune in for the show?"
Yes! Good lord, when I watch _W&G_ these days - not so much, anymore - I scratch my head and think to myself, "I used to *like* these two?"
"President Bush might as well have said, 'We're addicted to prosperity, comfort, and mobility...'"
But we *are* addicted to prosperity, comfort and mobility. Where else can you find one person commuting to and from work alone in a Lincoln Navigator? Parking said Navigator in the drive of a 4000 square foot house that he or she shares with a spouse, one kid and a dog?
"Could there be a worse person in charge of investigating peak oil for the Department of Energy?"
George W. Bush? William Clay Ford, Jr.? Ken Lay?
I'm sure there'll be (and has been) worse, but for now, what comes to my mind is, Marketing has finally lost its mind.
Gasp! The Journal not giving me fair and balanced (or even researched) reporting of corporate misdeeds? What next? NBC news holding back a story about the latest Microsoft Windows security exploit?
"In our late-capitalist, consumer-driven society, it's up to the consumers to call the shots."
Yeah. The same consumers that whine about the cost of gasoline, yet drive - alone - to and from work in a three-ton SUV at 80 m. p. h.
I'm not sure which is more distressing: that 60 Minutes hired this guy, or that the The New York Times let fly the typo.
As one who had the (dis)pleasure of watching the debate, hoping to see Lamont come off as well as he does in his commercials and sound bites, I was sorely disappointed. Lieberman came out swinging, made a point of disconnecting himself from Bush, then showed how valuable years of experience speaking and being in front of the camera can be. I fear that in the end, people will simply go with the devil they know. Once again, not the best man, but the better politician, will win.
Rachael's turbo-bubbliness may make some of us dour types want to shove a fork in our ear, but annoying as it may be it does appear genuine. I'd rather see fans follow Ms Ray around the kitchen than follow phoney-as-a-three-dollar-bill Martha Stewart.
Melinda Gates is to Bill Gates like Laura Bush is to George W. - an attached, likeable human to soften or improve the reputation of the assholes to whom she is married.
Not every penny stock started out that way. Once upon a time I bought stock in a promising company called Salon (SALN), at the Dutch auction IPO price of around $10/share. Years later - after a delisting and the dreaded reverse split - my re-tickered SLNM.OB is trading at around a buck, literally reverse-adjusted pennies.
But it's still trading - and I'm still able to use its product - which is more than I can say for my Pets.com!
Thanks for that. Monday morning, as I got up to start the week (and started turning on lights that would burn for an extra hour), I wondered: For all the electricity I'm going to supposedly save at the back end of this day, what about all the extra energy I'm using at the front end?
Even if DST "worked" when implemented on its original date, isn't starting it this early in the year counter-productive?
Call me ignorant, but after years of "suffering" through Daylight and Standard Time changes - always the shock to the human system, and more and more a shock to the electronics that have become a large part of life - I'm leaning toward joining the camp (and state of Arizona) that says, Just pick a time, and leave it the hell alone.
