    So, it will come to pass that the worst of the worst will be nominated. Since we can't filibuster every single nominee, eventually one of these cretins on the shortlist will be confirmed. As Roe v. Wade looks to be overruled, I want to exhort those who are pro-choice to get their Congressional representatives to introduce an amendment to the US Constitution (or state constitutions) protecting a citizen's right to privacy. Such amendment might be a long shot, but the prospect of failure has never stopped social conservatives for a second in attempting to abridge our rights via the Federal Constitution.

    Here in San Francisco there are a number of Vietnamese inspired or "modern" Vietnamese restaurants that some Vietnamese-Americans pooh pooh. But as a child of Vietnamese immigrants myself, I just appreciate it for what it is. It might not be exactly "what Mom used to make" but there are similarities. A lot of the difference lies in the presentation and the use of certain ingredients, and often what's offered on the menu tends to accommodate American tastes and tradition. Nothing wrong with that. What annoys me about all this is the people who reject food solely on the basis of a lack of authenticity, whatever that is. Inauthentic food can taste fine and good just like anything else.

    More than 200 economists, including four Nobel prize winners, signed a letter rejecting proposals by presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John McCain to offer a summertime gas-tax holiday.

    Columbia University economist Joseph Stiglitz, former Congressional Budget Office Director Alice Rivlin and 2007 Nobel winner Roger Myerson are among those who signed the letter calling proposals to temporarily lift the tax a bad idea. Another is Richard Schmalensee of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who was member of President George H.W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisers. ...
