The Newsmax defense is oddly reminiscent of Jeffrey Rosen's feeble attempt to deflect criticism of his libels against Sonia Sotomayor in the execrable TNR: "It's a blog - not a column!"
If they ever have a Stupidest Man in the World competition, Max has got to enter it. There's no way he won't win and, at this point, this is his only path to immortality.
What a stupid dichotomy - you're either sexist or you're a Palin hater. How about the option that we recognize that she is completely unqualified to govern in any capacity and want her to go away?
I'm a life-long Democrat who believes McCain would do or say anything to become President.
But you guys are nuts if you think this interview will turn any undecideds against him.
He took questions for an hour in a not-so-friendly environment.
You may interpret his responses as "testy," but most undecideds would watch this and think he was standing up for what he believes.
We can't take comfort in current polls and we certainly can't feel safe because liberal bloggers think he was acting like a jerk.
If you want to avoid another four years of a Republican President, you have to do more that read liberal web sites and chuckle.
You just don't get it. Good ole Charlie asks what sounds like a tough one-sentence question. Then Princess Sarah goes on with two paragraphs of high sounding platitudes that don't answer the question.
Charlie's response is ... a different question.
The right wing and the rubes who make up a majority of the electorate will watch this and go away saying, "I like her. She did pretty good(sic)."
Unless the Dems start hitting her and dishonorable John hard, we will watch McCain being sworn in in January. We cannot count on any part of the MSM to stand up for the truth. (BTW, thanks for nothing Carville. You look weirder every day.)
Glenn,
I greatly admire your courage and honesty. But, PLEASE learn the correct usage of "lay" and "lie."
Thanks and keep up the good work!
In her scurrilous column the second week of July when she slammed Obama for not being a "full-blooded" (i.e., all white) American. The rest of her cohort have been echoing and amplifying that theme. It will get a lot worse before November.
Check out the picture on the Grey Lady's web site. Sure looks like a flag pin. Wonder how long it will take for th ewing nuts to notice.
Not sure why I am paying for crap like this - I could just as easily tune into Rush Limbaugh or read the Drudge Report.
Come to think of it, when renewal time comes up, maybe I should just say, "No."
Bet you can't wait for the next Maureen Dowd column.
When McCain is taking us to war in Iran in 2009, I hope you will step up to accept your part of the blame.
This is a totally bogus issue. It would make a lot more sense to agitate for labels showing the antibiotics that have been fed to the animals we eat.
Given all the crap that goes into our food supply hysteria about cloned animals is beyond stupid.
So why are you hyping this issue?
Definitely creepy and scarey. Pass the Kool-Aid.
I have been watching silently as you hype every anti-Clinton blogoshpere rumor and completely ignore the obvious transgressions of the Obama campaign. (Have you taken the trouble to survey the vitriol of the Obama supporters directed at Hillary in your own comment sections? It rivals the best that Rush and Matt can offer.)
Unless I see a serious attempt at balance, I will not be renewing my Salon subscription.
I'm pretty disgusted with the tone this blog has taken, Alex.
Are you listening Joan? Alex has every right to express his political opinions - I wish he were a little more honest about them - and I have every right not to underwrite them.
I am surprised and and a bit disgusted that you haven't corrected this post that incorrectly cites the Journal Gazette for publishing Goeglein's columns. Especially when the TPM story you link to correctly identifies the paper as the News Sentinel. Did you even read their posting??
You need to fix this now.
There are two newspapers in Fort Wayne, the News Sentinel and the Journal Gazette. Goeglein's plagiarized column appeared in the News Sentinel, the more right-wing of the two, not the Journal Gazette as indicated in this post.
Too bad Michael is leaving, but I am proud to have been a paying Salon reader throughout his tenure.
If Salon can keep breeding reporters like Michael, who go on to bigger things, there may yet be hope for MSM!
