[Read the article: How much will white racism hurt Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]O.K. What does Obama offer that is new, except his face? He has spent his life navigating the very narrow seas of academia and Chicago politics. His speeches contain nothing except bromides. He repressnts the social democracy that dominates Europe and is fashionable among cosatal elites. But none of this is new.

[Read the article: How much will white racism hurt Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It takes no courage for a politician to tell his constituency what they want to hear.

[Read the article: The forgotten kid of Guantánamo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"victim?"
Maybe, but he was almost as old as some of the marines and soldiers he was trying to kill.
And in irregular warfare, it is not uncommon for young boys to be enlisted by leaders who obey none of the rule of war. Whether he was acting voluntarily or not is not easy to decide is it? Fact is he was trying to kill us, and a 17 year old boy in many cultures --certainly his--is quite capable of doing a man's work.
As are kids even younger. My son still remembers vividly getting out of his Hummer and turning to face a young kid leveling an rpg right at him and the hummer, The thing--fortunately-- went right between his legs and --even more fortunately--hit the ground under the Hummer without exploding. "Victim? " the kid was soon very dead. No need to take him to gitmo.
Now this "victim" is lucky. He is alive and will get a chance to tell his story. At least while we held him, he was not able to kill our soldiers.

[Read the article: The forgotten kid of Guantánamo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is full of it. He asserts as fact what no treaty can achieve, which is to grant individual persons rights apart from those of sovereign states.

the first true post-Reagan Democrat?
[Read the article: Two Democratic dynasties near the exit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If so, why does he seem so much like the last pre-Reagan Democrat, Jim,my Carter? For those who don't remember, Jimmy cast himself as a "moderate" during the 1976 campaign, so much so that I thought he was somoene like Zell Miller. Who knew that he would be a closet pacifist and a hater?

Forgetful Tom
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How could you have forgotten about the drug-perscription plan, the biggest new government program in years? But of course, you want a national health service like Britain's. But you are probably rich enough to fly to India for your surgery.

Remember stagflation?
[Read the article: McCain's scary economic advisor]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Unimpressed. Socialists have a fondness for regulation, so they forget that regulators seldom are disinterested, and often are in the pocket of the people they regulate.
That said. Just compare the economy now with the economy of 1980.

McClellan
[Read the article: Scott McClellan: The beatings continue]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well, it doesn't help that his publisher is a far-left liberal with ties to Soros and that the prose has been spiced up by "editors." As to "truth, " it does divert public attention from what is happening now, and Obama's predictions have so, far, proved wrong, or from the fact that he and his wife are chums with some very nutty clergymen,
Bottom line is, though, that McClellan is a naif who doesn't see how brutal a game that politics is.

Global Warming truths
[Read the article: Opus]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Breathed wears a Greeland flag in his lapel, so he should talk.

Fiction
[Read the article: The real consequences when America is at war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The author pulled this out of his imagination. Like all fiction it has some elements of truth, but good fiction dos not have untruth.

Stupid?
[Read the article: Are you too dumb to vote?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For starters, they know nothing about government or current events. They can't follow arguments of any complexity. They stuff themselves with slogans and advertisements. They eschew fact for myth. They operate from biases and stereotypes, and they privilege feeling over thinking.
O.K. so much for the media guys and dolls.

Unity
[Read the article: Democrats, put down your swords]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Unity under the McGovernite banner? Why not go back a little further? I was watching some footage of Boby Kennedy's campaign talks. Really grabbed at me. And it struck me how little in common you all have in common with Bobby, or Martin Luther King for that matter. Obama could use a bit of Bobby's humility. When Bobby ran in 1968, most of the cockiness had been kicked out of him. Obama impresses me as too full of himself. That has to go.

Wait and see
[Read the article: What will Bush be remembered for?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How would Lincoln be remembered if McClellen had won in 1864? And that would have happened if Jeff Davis had not replaced a cautious commander with a reckless one. The greatest irony would be if Obama's first visit to Baghdad would be in 2010 to make a speech to the Parliament of a united Iraq.

Gitomo
[Read the article: The insanity inside Guantánamo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Algeria isn't accepting detainees back home, but even it were, Belbacha is so fearful of being tortured there that he has asked the U.S. federal courts to block his return. But there is no other country willing to take him, and he remains stuck in Guantánamo.
Seems to me like someone between a rock and a hard place. Details like this undercut your thesis --the Gitmo is a uniquely horrible place.

Biracialism
[Read the article: The mix master]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fact is that Powell could have run for president in 1996. One reason, perhaps the main reason, he did not was that he would have had to run as a Republican and he would have been tarred as Clarence Thomas has been, as a Traitor to His Race.
Powell has all the personal talents that Obama has. He certainly had better credentials. He was highly regarded here in the South. Millions of white men who in their youth would not have shared a cup of water with him would have voted for him.But he could not have won because millions of black men had been taught to hate his party. My guess is that his wife didn't want him to run less because she feared for his life than because she did not want to be shunned by her friends.
