Torture, Smorture

Give me the stories about Obama's bowling, Clinton's laugh. I don't want to worry, be happy. Seriously, of course the press focuses on those issues. The MSM are too stupid and too lazy and too cowardly to do the work required for serious examination of serious issues.

The press also focuses on crap because they get away with it. Who called the MSM out when it spent an entire campaign in 2000 discussing Gore's wardrobe and "his life as a serial liar," while turning junior into everyman--if everyman were rich, connected, and awol from the military? Nobody except Bob Somerby went after the press for its wretched excuse for journalism. Eugene Robinson, Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich all got passes as these so-called liberal members of the MSM trashed Gore, having trashed the Clinton's before him. And, of course, Chris Matthews spent 2 weeks giving the Swiftboaters air time to go after Kerry.

Now the MSM is still only being called by some of the liberal blogs because they fear the MSM's marriage to John McCain will keep it faithful to him, preventing it from going off with its mistress Barack Obama, preventing Obama from becoming the new trophy wife--younger, prettier, smarter than the old lady.

However, if Hillary were ahead, the blogs would be happy to have the MSM focus on her real and imagined flaws. Until liberals require all so-called liberal pundits to be fair, not support, but be fair to all liberal politicians--well, all politicians--the MSM including its supposedly liberal members will continue to fall in love with some and hate, hate, hate the other woman.

(And don't claim Hillary isn't liberal. She campaigned FOR gay and lesbian candidates while Obama campaigned WITH the homophobic minister. She has a health care plan that covers all but Obama's doesn't. She is at least as progressive as he is. And wile she has had some vile friends, so has Obama, starting with the slum landlord, Rezko, now on trial. Neither is pure as the driven snow, both are better than McCain.)

So, will Chris feel that same old tingle for John or will he switch his affections to Barack and will the tingle switch legs, and will liberals like Randi Rhodes get away with calling Hillary a whore because they love Barack better. Stay tuned as the World turns for the Bold and the Beautiful and the Days of their Lives.

Suspended something

She is not quitting because she believes that when the public finds out more about Obama she will win and because she thinks he is a weaker candidate in the general election, and, finally, because she thinks--as many do--that she will be a better president. That being the case why should she quit.

After all many know that Obama took money from a slum landlord, Rezko, who was taking advantage of poor blacks. Obama took money from a nuclear power corporation, Excelon, and then rewrote legislation until the corp was happy. Obama couldn't afford the $1.65 million house he wanted because the owner required the adjacent lot be sold the same day. So Obama went to Rezko for help. Whereupon Rezko bought the lot even though he was broke and under investigation, and soon to be indicted. And it was Obama who parroted GOP talking points about Social Security being in trouble when it is Medicare/caid and then took money from Goldman-Sachs, the leading proponent of privatizing Social Security. Lastly, it was Obama who said the GOP and Reagan were the party of ideas without noting that they were bad ideas.

After all many know that the Clinton's were investigated by a slew of right-wing wackos, led by Ken Starr and the House and Senate GOP, and after 10 years, 90 FBI agents, dozens of lawyers, and $60 million cleared of ALL charges. That makes them the most carefully vetted and thus arguably most honest politicians around. While John McCain and Barack Obama, beloved of the MSM and much of the so-called liberal blogs, have been the least vetted, and that only when it could not be avoided. (Though Obama is clearly better than McCain. At least he didn't call his wife a C--- in front of a slew of reporters; all of whom dutifully covered it up to protect McCain.)

So, why should Hillary quit.

Haunting from the left and right

Given Obama's ties to large corporations like Exelon and Goldman-Sachs, for example, and his less than universal health care plan, I think it is hard to distinquish between the two candidates on a left-right basis even though Obama is often considered the more liberal because of his early speech against the war. Both Clintons, for example, did speak out against the war before the invasion in various public interviews. And Hillary's health care plan is clearly more reformist and progressive than Obama's, which is probably why Elizabeth Edwards has endorsed it. Moreover, what does it mean to be an establishment figure. Women, blacks, and gays are only establishment figures as long as the real establishment figures permit it; and this go round Obama has lined up a really long list of establishment figures himself.
