The MSM, having allowed the Republicans to dictate coverage of Bill Clinton's presidency and Al Gore and John Kerry's campaigns would like to get rid of them, their aides, their wives, and the few journalists who noted what gutless, fuzzy-minded, idiots they proved to be over the years. No one likes to be around people who remind them of their sins, failures, and gross incompetence. That means bad reviews, contempt, and more idiocy in the hopes that reporters who did not fall for the disinformation will go away and take Hillary and Bill with them. Then there will be no one to remind the NYTimes, the Washington Post, and the rest of that vapid, incompetent, dishonest, cowardly, foolish, stupid, corrupt, greedy, and morally bankrupt cohort of their many failures. That alone would be worth a Clinton-Gore ticket with Kerry as Secretary of whatever he wants.
It is true that the Wright issue is an albatross on his back, so if a Clinton staffer is pointing that out to the superdelegates they are only pointing out the obvious. See the YouTube video for a taste of what is to come from the GOP in the general election. It was done by a GOP guy according to Politico.com. It's already being circulated by a McCain staffer who was suspended. Obama's numbers have been going down since the story hit the front pages and television news. The first rule of politics is the truth
The problem is the liberal media doesn't call the supposedly liberal media on their 'cooperation' with the right-wing. I mean nobody called Frank Rich and Barbara Ehrenreich on their relentless trashing of Al Gore in 2000. (By trashing I mean dishonest or unfair criticism.)
Nobody challenges Maureen Dowd on her insane trashing of the Clintons, Gore, Edwards, and to some extent Obama. We don't stick together, so if we don't like Hillary, it okay for Ehrenreich or Rich to trash her. If we don't like Obama, it's okay for Nader to trash him or Gore. With friends like them who needs enemies. If we don't challenge our so-called allies when they lie about a progressive candidate they don't think is progressive enough or has hair that is too beautiful or has a cackle instead of a laugh, or whatever, we will forever give the right-wing aid and comfort.
No candidate is perfect, and if we believe one is we will be doomed. The only person to call Dowd or Rich or Ehrenreich consistently, whether they are attacking Gore, Clinton, or Obama is Bob Somerby of the Daily Howler. We have to defend progressives of all stripes and we don't. That goes for so-called liberal politicians too. Kennedy and Leahy let Anita Hill dangle slowly in the wind, and we got Clarence Thomas. They are trashing Hillary and I fear we will get John McCain.
The sexism this year is horrible, but what will happen when she is gone? Will racism replace the hatred launched against Hillary?
Gene Robinson is supporting Obama now, and surely will continue to, but what is Obama loses and Gene doesn't like the nominee in 2012? If he gets by with trashing Hillary now, like he did Gore in 2000 what is to stop him 20012.
We have to be fair too.
They delayed because they didn't want to make the Obama's look bad. The Clinton's tithe, 9.5% to charity. The Obama's gave a maximum of 1% to charity, usually it was much less. Moreover the Clintons paid 33% in taxes, the same rate as the average American. That means they didn't take advantage of the loopholes they could have. In fact they have almost always tithed and refused to use loopholes they were eligible for. In other words, they put their money where their mouths are.
The elite in the country are clearly more sexist than racist, probably because they compete more directly with more women for jobs. But strongest reason for the sexist diatribes against Hillary is because they are, like Chris Matthews, sexually insecure little weasels. People always hate the thing they fear. That's why men who rape, sexually harass, beat or murder women are frightened, angry, cowardly men who attempt to control and humiliate women. Barring the ability, or opportunity, to do so, they spew vitriol, tell nasty jokes, and make vicious comments. But at bottom they are frightened cowards. It is interesting that they are less frightened of blacks than women, though I wonder how many are just using support for Obama as a smokescreen to hide their fear of women. I always thought it spoke will of Bill Clinton, Obama, and Edwards that they were strong and confident enough to find strong, assertive, self-confident women. None of those women are meant for weaklings.
