He's got a point

Say what you will about mislabelling the article, but Moore does have a point. We need to seriously reconsider nuclear power. That little accident on the Island in the 70s has made public acceptance of nuclear power fall through the floor. But if you compare the number of deaths and the damage to the environment of coal to nuclear, what wins out?

I'm not saying it's definitely a good idea, but I think nuclear's bad press is based on fear, not science.

I couldn't watch the trailers

I was living in Brooklyn during 9/11 and working on the 60th floor of the WTC building 2. I never went to work that day due to a dentist's appointment. Nothing will make me want to relive those 4 hours when I thought that everyone I worked with was dead (thankfully, the vast majority escaped unharmed).

Seeing this movie will not give me closure; it will not make events more clear to me; it will not be enjoyable; it will not make me learn more about myself or that day. That day was a personal loss for me, and I want it to remain just that---personal. Therefore, I will not see the movie.

The few times I have seen trailers for this movie in the theater, I have had to leave until it was over.

Is it too early for this movie to be made? I don't know, but I know that I will never see it.

As previous posters have mentioned, this is a very different movie, with different objectives from Hotel Rwanda, but I would imagine that those personally affected by the situation in Rwanda would not want to see the movie either.

But since there are so many more people in the US who have been personally affected by 9/11, I imagine that many more people feel the way I do.

I love it

This comic is exactly what Mr. Shultz would have written were he around today...minus, of course any mention of current events. The spirit is there Tom. Great job.

Hedging

What I got out of this article is not that carbon trading is a bad idea, or that it is the final solution to global warming, but that it is a piece, and an under-developed piece at that.

Currently, it seems that carbon trading is an inefficient market. Buyers don't really know what they're buying and how much it is truly helping. Sellers are never sure if buyers are going to be around, or if there's going to be a market collapse.

What needs to happen (and I'm sure it will if this market gets any bigger) is the introduction of hedge funds to this market. That, in addition to some regulation and oversight, can insure fair and equitible prices and products. Say what you want about hedge funds' benefits to society, but they do help make sure that no one's getting ripped off.

I'm not a financial person, and I don't know exactly how this could work, but I do know this has to happen.

Gore's better off not as president

Mr. Gore seems to have done far more good to the environment before and after he was vice president than while he was in office. I can't think of the specifics right now, but it does seem like Gore's real stance on the environment lost out to politics. There's no reason to think that it wouldn't happen again.

4% for terrorism>

That's a surprise...only 4% feel that terrorism should be the top priority. I guess we must be winning the war on terrorism.

Other points of view?

There is a conservative website that I sometimes visit in order to get a more fair and balanced view of things. The columnists on that site say lots of things, especially regarding the Gay Marriage amendment and even liberalism in general. Unsurprisingly, the site is very one-sided (some can argue that salon.com is too, but that's a different story).

I encourage everyone to go to this site, Townhall.com, read some of the columns, and post comments telling exactly what you think.

Here are a few recent columns on the anti-gay marriage amendment:

http://www.townhall.com/opinion/columns/Sheldon%20Kinsel/2006/06/06/200009.html

I'm not going to tell you what to think, but I do think that many of you will find what is said to be both amusing and anger inducing. Enjoy.

Did anyone see...

Did anyone see Ann smile when Matt Lauer asked if she believed everything that she said (look closely). The response was:

"No, of course I believe everything."

Then there was a slight smile, kind of like an "I gotcha" smile.

I don't think she believes what she's saying. I think she's just trying to see how long it takes before people find out that she's really a lesbian in love with an Islamic woman.

Cold Fusion

I'm still waiting for cold fusion. It's just as cool and about as likely to ever make it.

Community gradens

Community gardens are so important to inner cities.

Many gardens on the Lower East Side in NY have similar stories to the one in this documentary. Community building, appreciation of the outdoors, and adding greenery to an otherwise concrete landscape are just some of their benefits.

The only major difference is that they were never meant to provide a significant food source for the gardeners.

Now, in Vancouver, BC (where I currently live) has an extensive collection of community gardens and more are opening soon. They add so much to the city.

The biggest problem is convincing local governments that the social benefits of these gardens often trumps the economic benefits of development.

New York and Vancouver have it right. Vernon, and by extension, LA do not.
