  • Does J. Edgar Hoover Live?

[Read the article: The Beltway Establishment's contempt for the rule of law]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

J Edgar Hoover kept unknown numbers of politicians and newspaper reporters in his pocket through the use of blackmail, based upon the personal information he collected.

Given the unethical history of this adminstration, and the vastly more efficiently intrusive methods available to them, isn't it likely that Bush is doing the same thing to our legislators and media employees?

  • Clinton's Wolfson Hits Below the Belt

[Read the article: Obama: "We're on the same team"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Another example of the intemperate (and rightwing talkingpoint exploiting) Clinton nonsense is the entry on Howard Wolfson's Clinton website hosted blog titled "Obama Met With Terrorists" (referring to senior citizen Weathermen Bernadine Dohrn and William Ayers). Think its a coincidence this happened just as the Somali-garb photo was circulating?

  • Perhaps we should get our own house in order

[Read the article: An Olympic disgrace]

before self-righteously attacking the "exotic" practices of another culture.

Millions of cows, pigs and other animals are brutally killed in factory settings in the United States with little regard to their comfort or well-being. Without slighting other slaughtered animals, pigs are reputed to make good and affectionate pets, and are regularly cited to have greater intelligence than dogs.

Why is it more appropriate to slaughter the animals raised in a factory setting than the dog who started life as a pet? Does the fact that the factory bred and slaughtered animals lived more of their lives in misery justify killing them? This hardly makes sense.

Of course, in this country untold numbers dogs and cats (many of whom were once pets) are routinely rounded up for "euthanasia." Killing them with kindness, I suppose.

  • Shouldn't this article be labeled with a warning sticker

[Read the article: Why Hillary Clinton should be winning]

indicating that Sean Wilentz is a long time friend of the Clintons who habitually comes to their defense?

  • Sexism, Racism, Obama and Clinton

[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Both sexism and racism are real factors in the race between Clinton and Obama. How could they not be, since both sexism and racism are still active facts in American life? The fact that sexism and racism are often expressed in covert ways doesn't make sorting out the influence of these forces in people's electoral choices easier.

I perceive much racism in many of the blindly pro-Clinton supporters and by the Clinton team. To me, this is reflected in the constant diminution of Obama by calling him an "empty suit," by claiming that he has done nothing more than make one speech, or by the tactics of Bill Clinton in trying to reduce Obama to a "Black candidate."

However, I'm not completely closed to the idea that some of my hair-trigger sensibilities on this issue are too easily set off. I think the same sort of problem exists with Clinton supporters. They are so convinced of their candidate's obvious superiority that they believe anyone opposing that candidate must be acting from some vile motive.

  • Clinton Didn't Meet Her Double Digit Expectations

[Read the article: Obama can't close the deal ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Hillary Clinton didn't have a 10 point lead. With 99% of the vote in, her lead was ar most 9.4.

    See http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/pa/pennsylvania_democratic_primary-240.html

So she didn't even break the double-digit barrier. This, in a state where she had family ties, where she had the party machines behind her, and where she was up by substantial double digit margins a short while ago.

It's only by the relentless misshapen logic of those who enjoy the false but dramaful narrative of "he's-ahead, no-wait-she's-ahead" that this can be considered a victory over expectations.

Not only that, Obama DID build on his base and improved his standing among many categories of voters from the big state most similar to Pennsylvania, Ohio.

Stop enabling the Clinton campaign's delusions.

  • This article is florid nonsense

[Read the article: Whose fault is the Clinton-Obama stalemate?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Trapped by the true-believer enthusiasm that the fledging Illinois senator arouses, the Obama campaign has become something of a Cool Kids Club. Either you are a full-fledged member (with the secret handshake and the decoder ring) or else you find yourself voting for a well-known, albeit flawed, alternative called Hillary Clinton."

Is this analysis? Is it reporting? I don't think so; it's received wisdom with little evidence to support the florid conclusions. Yet the article acts as if unquestioning adulation of their candidate defines Obama supporters.

A comprehensive look at the internet postings of Clinton supporters will show you that there are "true-believers" among the Clintonites who fail to see any flaws in their candidate and who in fact treat as signs of genius what an objective viewer would see as flaws.

And what the hell is this business about a "secret handshake and the decoder ring?" This suggests that the Obama campaign is exclusionary. It is not.
