Media Manipulation: "What Americans Want"

I Think The Bush Administration

Is sunk on this one. No matter how many minions appear and no matter what they say.

They have lost the overwhelming majority on Iraq for good. The bullshit has been too deep for too long.

-- The Notorious W.E.S.

Unfortunately, bullshit always works to the advantage of this administration.

Here is a classic example of how media manipulation is used to get Americans to believe "this is what Americans think".

MSNBC had a poll this week that indicated that

Poll: More fear Iran as biggest threat to U.S.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11221196/

This is how the poll was taken:

Which of these countries do you perceive as the biggest threat to the U.S.?

Iran

North Korea

China

Iraq

The assumption inherent in the question is that (a) the biggest threat to the U.S. is a COUNTRY and (b) the biggest threat to the U.S. is EXTERNAL.

I don't agree with either premise. And the question allows no room for anything other than the outcome they want:

Americans believe Iran is the USA's #1 threat.

As Hillary so vapidly said of Iran last week, "We can't do nothing".

Regime Change at the North Pole

Many many young Americans believe in Santa at an age when they are easily lied to and misled, but later, as adults, none of them believe in Santa Claus.

Look, I don't know where you're going with this but Santa Claus said he doesn't have WMD's!! If all options are on the table, can you at least wait until January?!!

@MinimalEndowment

Hey, c'mon! It's his first day! His first post and already he's being pushed face down in the mud.

By the way, didn't "Unclaimed Territory" end in February? ... Mr Kurtz? ... it's OK .. I'm sure your post would get many guffaws in Georgetown!

Contempt for the American People

"However they put it, the Democrat (sic) approach in Iraq comes down to this: The terrorists win and America loses"

George W Bush - October 30, 2006

"Liberals saw the savagery on 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers."

Karl Rove - June 22, 2005

It's one thing for Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Bill O'Reilly to talk that way, but this is the President of the United States and his Deputy Chief of Staff.

These people are shit and have earned nothing but scorn and contempt.

Stopping the American People

I would guess a large part of what baffles the WSJ (and the national media at large), is that since THEY'VE been extremely careful to not play up Bush's scandals, crimes, and jaw-dropping outrages, how could the PEOPLE be outraged and angered? This isn't the Clinton presidency, after all! This is a REPUBLICAN presidency! WE'LL decide what's outrageous, not the PEOPLE!

It's kind of like the Grinch who truly believes he has control over the Whos in Whoville by what HE allows them to have.

"It's all been so neatly packaged! It came without ABC! It came without CBS! It came without NBC, CNN, or FOX!

It came without NYT! It came without WAPO! It came without Newsweek, USA Today or Time"

Unfortunately, unlike the Grinch, the media is a soulless and heartless beast without a conscience.

Republicans Wearing Dresses & Costumes

Does anyone else notice the proclivity of the ‘stay-at-home-moms’ of the Republican party (George Bush, Mitt Romney, Rudy Guiliani, etc.) who avoided serving in war due to their extreme fear of battle, ALL enjoying wearing dresses and costumes?

I can’t imagine any Democratic presidential contender dressing in drag or parading around like one of the Village People the way Bush (Mr Dress-up Soldier) Guilini (The Girl Next Door), Mitt (The Vaudeville Minstrel) or Fred Thompson (Fredericks of Hollywood) do in a way that defines their character.

Mr. Law & Order

And over 6 years after Osama Bin Laden attacked his "thity", Giuliani’s allegiance to the man he told Bernard Kerik he "thanked God" was president on 9/11 supersedes any interest in apprehending or punishing the man responsible. What a true "law and order" tough guy!

In retrospect, it seems obvious Bin Laden also knew to be grateful to Allah that Bush was president on 9/11.

The War on Terror - Post Bush

Does anyone else wonder how these grotesque governmental abuses will be viewed in little over a year from now when it's no longer a Republican administration at the helm of a unitary executive and a lawless military? I think you’d have to be a bit naïve to not think that Hillary or Barack are going to take advantage (to some degree) of the power the GOP has worked so hard to instill in the executive. With the extent to which the 'Don't Question the Government or We'll Question Your Patriotism' mantra has become so engrained in the United States since 9/11 and this Time of War, and with the MSM and the beltway punditry completely on board, it will be damn near impossible to dismantle the New Reality any time soon. And any cries of outrage and governmental abuses from the same acquiescent and appeasing GOP who for the past 7 years agreed that whatever the White House wants to do in the name of National Security cannot be questioned, will be extremely hard to take seriously.

Remember, in 2000 people screamed (and rightfully so) about the Attorney General having the Border Patrol SWAT team remove Elian Gonzalez from his relatives at gunpoint. In the current hysterical debate over immigration and the new War of Civilizations, will the rightwing do a complete about face in 2009 and return to cries of 'jack booted thugs' at such government abuses? Or has the “aiding the terrorists” rhetoric become too part and parcel with the WOT and allowing the government free reign to do whatever it wants? And if so, when will outrage at governmental abuses be something we can all agree on again? ... I guess I just answered my own question. Obviously, in 2009. When it’s a Democratic White House.
