"Remember when Glenn was dissing Hillary Clinton?.. Only Obama could bring us back to American ideals... All I can say is SUCKAS!!!!!"-- Harry Cheddar
It seems the two most frequent and baseless opinions posted on this blog are that (1) People here are "surprised" by things that Glenn writes, including Glenn and (2) That in a strange and mysterious earlier time that posters on this blog were wide-eyed Obama fanatics who believed he would save the country. The fact that that was never the case doesn't deter some people from desperately wanting to believe they had some enviable insights that no one else had.
Of all the progressive blogs, Glenn's seems to have the most non-fanatical supporters of Obama, but to accept that reality would preclude yahoos from screaming "SUCKAS"
When an ideology embraces a mindset of spying on Americans without warrants, detaining people without due process, and torturing and murdering people just for the Jack-Bauer 'thrill of it', why exactly is singling out lawless ‘rightwing extremism’ or 'rightwing terrorism' wrong? Don’t rightwing extremists kill innocent people (Bush/Cheney, Timothy McVeigh, the Anthrax terrorist, the Aryan Nation, etc.)? Isn’t inflicting pain and suffering a proud component of their ideology? Or did the last 8 years not happen?
There is a decidedly different objective to leftwing lawlessness – to help and to save – than there is to rightwing lawlessness – to repress, to destroy and to kill.
I said more times than I can remember over the last 8 years when the rightwing yahoos proudly supported vesting the president with unlimited authority that all that power would inevitably be handed to a Democratic president. Yet, the rightwing went out of their way to ENSURE a Democrat would have those powers!
To Malkin, Limbaugh, Goldberg, Drudge, the Washington Times, FOX News, et.al, a giant middle-finger FUCK YOU! You wanted internment camps, obliteration of civil liberties, and a banana republic justice system devoid of habeas corpus -- you got it!
"It goes without saying that Greenwald's post consists largely of a massive strawman." -- -- LonewackoDotCom
Since Glenn's post "consists largely of a massive strawman" argument, it wouldn't have been hard for you to cite it. You do know that the fact that you didn't is the definition of a strawman argument. Or are you so far to the right you can't take a shit without the RNC faxing you instructions?
"This is a time for reflection, not retribution"-- Pres Obama
I'm going to use that the next time I'm pulled over for speeding.
""The liberal blogosphere is on the attack"
Allen was most likely (I’d say pretty obviously) talking to Rove and/or Cheney. Doesn't the fact that Rove and Cheney are such discredited rightwing extremists that they need anonymity, override Politico's reactionary “attacks from the left” drivel?
"Followed by the throwing of conservatives into giant ovens while still alive."-- rockybalboa
I don't think he'd do that. Certainly not while they're still alive.
Since conservatives now hate this country in a way that makes their behavior during the Bush years seem almost patriotic, let me explain something to you the way it was explained to me:
"We were attacked on 9/11. If you and the Dixie Chicks hate our coutry's leader, get the fuck out!"
Who could have imagined having a beer with an imbecile would lead to America imploding?
It seems nothing will erase your status as "hero" in this country faster than condemning the national media and the rightwing. Ashleigh Banfield on her 9/11 coverage, Pat Tillman dying for his country, suddenly became irrelevant once they were exposed as having a brain.
I would love if Capt Richard Phillips said something "left-wing" like America should abide by the Geneva Conventions. The yahoos would turn on him on a dime.
"But what's this bit about reflection? Since it's a time for reflection, what do we do when it comes to torture? Contemplate the meaning of the waterboard?"-- GlennGreenwald
Yes. It's a shovel-ready contemplation process of biting our lower-lips à la Bill Clinton and looking towards the heavens to reflect on the glorious past of testicle electrocution.
Another of the nauseating justifications used by torture apologists is the “you have to remember the time” mantra. Apparently, no one in the United States had escaped a national lobotomy. Who was thinking clearly? We were all drunk with stupidity in the wake of 9/11! If you remember how Americans felt, if you remember what we were all going through, if you remember we are all as terrified as Barney Fife, then you have to admit playing a Monday morning quarterback is disingenuous. There weren't record level protests, we were ALL cowards and willing to scrap international law. It wasn’t just Bush/Cheney and their rightwing/national media enablers. ALL Americans favored an overhaul of our Constitution in order to keep us safe.
"If I were a lower grade enlisted man/woman, and MY Dad came along and ordered ME to torture someone - I'd have done it."
And that differs from the "just following orders" excuse used by German officers how?
