"has there been a population explosion of trolls in Glenn's comment section recently?"-- generalDisdain
I think the explosion depends on which days Glenn hits a nerve and has his page linked on the fringiest of fringe sites out there. That extreme minority that still pines for the days a few years back when screeching irrational, unfounded, delusional, hate-speech absurdities, more often than not racist, was considered the 'post 9/11 Merka way of thinkin'!' by WAY too many knucklehead Americans.
Considering they now are more like neutered bitches than the fiery wingnuts in heat who thrived during the BUSH IS JESUS REAGAN era of 2002-2003, I actually enjoy their Joe McCarthy circa 1956 self-immolation.
"I suggest all you liberals read the book of Revelation, chapter 13 and the First Letter of John, chapter two. in describing the Antichrist, he is not someone with horns, he is someone who is beloved, eloquent, admired and performs miracles."-- rockybalboa
Do honestly believe that Obama is seen by more people as carrying out the 'Word of Our Lord Jesus Christ' than the GOP's savior of 2001-2005 George W Bush? There were actually websites devoted to how George W Bush was "fulfilling scripture" (I know. A friend of mine's wife ran one the most prominent ones and was even interviewed on radio about Bush's 'Jesusy-ness'). This idea that it's leftists and progressives, and not the lunatic, rightwing, 'Old-Testament-is-the-100%-truth' and 'Jesus is coming back just wait!' type that seek out saviors -- particularly in light of what this country has just endured -- is beyond ridiculous!
A bit off topic but a variation on Bush's straw man tactic that I always found infuriating and inane was when he ascribed idiotic beliefs that HE held (until he found out he was completely wrong) onto others.
"Some of the debate really centers around the fact that people don't believe Iraq can be free; that if you're Muslim, or perhaps brown-skinned, you can't be self-governing."George Dingleberry Bush (04/13/04)
"There was a day when we thought oceans could protect us from an enemy, that we were okay if there was a threat overseas because oceans served as protection for America."George Dingleberry Bush (03/15/04)
I thought all along it was because Glenn was intimidated by Joe the Plumber's incisive arguments and wonkish mind that an interview had not taken place. Have any feelers been sent out to Joe's people?
That's preposterous! The more likely scenario has to do with Area 51 (h/t Art Bell). Obama knows damn well if the state secrets he's concealing are revealed, it would infuriate the Kyrotitians and cause Bigfoots to multiply by the thousands, thereby causing the human race to become permanently enslaved by the superior Kyrotitian/Bigfoot tribe ... I've said too much..
Rush Limbaugh a FORMER drug addict? Hardly! How much more obvious can it be than his tell-tale, drug-induced, bloated carcass? You don't get such swollen, puffed up features unless you're pumping your body with some kind of chemicals. That's not carb-fat, that's drug-fat. And jumping up and down (probably because there's no feeling in his grotesquely inflated limbs) is a pretty obvious exhibition of just how out of control his problem has become.
I would put money on the fact that Rush Limbaugh will die much like Elvis Presley whose drugged-out features match Limabugh's identically.
"If someone publishes spin, it's up to people like Mr. Greenwald to find someone to publish the argument to that spin - and do it in a way that is both convincing and doesn't seem so WHINY (please stop whining, you sound like a 3rd grader who's sister stole his lunch)!!-- wbrooksjr
whiny /ˈʰwaɪni, ˈwaɪ-/
–adj: complaining; fretful; cranky: The baby is whiny because he missed his nap.
Is it possible to be more lacking in self-awareness?
What it boils down to is that you believe that nothing can be done to correct problems. That's your idea of "wisdom." Glenn believes that problems can be fixed. That's his wisdom. The people who get the most out of Glenn's columns are the ones who agree that change through pressure can occur. The obvious downside that people fighting corruption and pushing for justice always face is the "You're naive, it's always been this way, nothing can be done" crowd.
There's nothing the least bit unique or original about accepting defeat without a fight. I don’t know why people who espouse that tired, endlessly retread, mantra come here everyday and think they are providing hard-won “wisdom.”
"What you completely fail to acknowledge is the possibility that Iran, whatever its formal statements might be, has in fact been engaged in developments that could lead to a nuclear weapon. "-- frankly0
Try imagining yourself in Iran's shoes for just a second if you can. You've just witnessed 8 years of a stark, raving lunatic (who just happens to head up the strongest miltary power on earth) making it abundantly clear that he wants to "shock n' awe" you and your people back to the stone age. You've just seen upwards of one million people in your neighboring country murdered by this sadistic madman - a madman with more nuclear weaponry than all the nations of the world combined. You know that he is completely irrational, completely amoral, and would kill you and all your fellow countrymen without thinking twice and sleep like a baby afterwards. How is it that YOU'RE the one that needs to stop what you're doing?
"It's good that you did that!. Now wish it into the cornfield, Obama."-- csturgeo
"You should call the ACLU, EFF, the CCR and everyone else who devotes their adult life to civil liberties and tell them they shouldn't be angry with the Obama administration."-- Glenn Greenwald
Personally, I don't think dragging John Fogerty into this will help, although it would be very cool!
