"If you were an al-Qaida leader . . . and you knew about what they were able to do, you’d get your ass outta town."-- Bob Woodward
AWESOME!!
I wonder if the Iraqi civilians (better known in Washington as the "insignifcants") should also get their "ass outta town?"
I'm thinking neutron bomb - turn every man, woman, and child into dust. Considering Baby Huey only has less than 4 months to play with his toys -- 4 more months and then never, ever again be able to commit mass-murder -- I'm sure he's prudently biting the side of this face, asking Jesus to guide him, and planning one last genocidal blast to look back on in retirement, giggling like the little bitch that he is.
AWESOME!!!
I agree. I usually find myself in agreement with Keillor's point of view, but he slipped up on that little nugget. One of those accepted ‘bits of wisdom' that has no basis in reality.
Theists seem to need, not only to believe in a deity, but also to believe deep down that everyone is equally driven by fear ... I mean, a belief in a god.
Personally, I find it sad that such an obviously fictional creation (our sky ghost) is a firm belief by an overwhelming majority of my species.
Between having more military power than brains AND believing in a deity, it's hard to imagine our species not obliterating itself before another century passes... and still we hear time and again how we need more god in our lives not less.
Not to be a cheap advertisement for Digby again, but she mentions something this morning that may be at the heart of why McCain is shielding Palin – her potential skeletons. If Americans really, REALLY get to know her, that might not be so good, and McCain may have discovered why. Nothing dominates the news like a tawdry sex scandal – and when you choose a woman based solely on her gender and appearance, her skeletons may be more juicy & interesting to voters than whether McCain’s campaign manager has been on Freddie Mac’s payroll. It's sleazy, but true... Bush had no trouble hiding his true thoughts (“I don’t believe in nation building”), and I’ll give her the benefit of any doubt that she could run circles around Bush intellectually.
Glenn says that Palin may be “completely ignorant about the most basic political issues -- a vacant, ill-informed, incurious know-nothing.” I actually don’t think that would be something McCain would try to cover up because (1) It makes him look that much smarter-- just like Bush/Quayle in 1988, and (2) wasn’t that considered Junior Space Cadet’s (“wouldn’t you like to have a beer me?”) greatest asset 8 years ago?
“Sarah gets continuous criticism for having the temerity to run for political office rather than stay home with the kids”-- ehillesum
Listening to members of the White-Man Woman Haters Club (GOP) decry 'sexism' in their defense of Palin lying about the Bridge to Nowhere, her secessionist ties, her cluelessness about the Bush doctrines, her abuse of power, and her predilection for book-burning, I can't help but wonder how upside this campaign would have become if one of their original prospects for 2008, Condoleezza Rice, had gotten in the campaign. Imagining Rush Limbaugh, Bill Bennet, Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly calling every attack on her ‘racist!’, or espousing a belief in a ‘color-blind, equal society’, boggles the mind. Although, I think even they would inevitably slip up and be caught laughing too many times for even their most ardent supporters to believe they suddenly had a problem with either racism or sexism.
"I'm tired of people stepping on others to make themselves 'bigger'. It doesn't work, anyway. Good luck to you, sir."-- Genevieve34
She's on to you, Glenn!
"thank you glen for anwesering to trainman the way u did on page 7. unfortunately many in here have those kind of feelingi would recommend to th read the book of 1corinthians toward the end of the chapter. if u think paul was lacking in understanding and some of u think to be wise check the book outu might be surprised what it say"-- verdeoro
Amazing. I wonder if Trainman knew he would be proven so spectacularly correct?
... not that stupidity and mind-numbing incoherence are in any way related.
Bill O'Reilly made a very prescient observation that explains why the financial markets collapsed. It wasn't deregulation, lack of oversight, and almost 3 decades of trickle-down Reaganomics. No, no, no! It was 'social engineering' -- Benevolent white corporations being forced to give loans to those under-handed minorities!

Marc Hill (FOX "news" contributor): "You Republicans could learn a thing about individual responsibility"
Bill O'Reilly: "I'm not a Republican. I can sue you for that!"
"if all homeowners were making their mortgage payments there would be no crises. It is the very basic premise of this particular problem. I don't believe you can make that statement on any of the other players in the situation."-- Bill_H
Oh, absolutely! These people drowning in debt are just not responsible players like the banks! It would be pretty far-fetched to accuse the people handing out loans, thinking their predatory greed would pay off forever, of not being responsible players dutifully handling their finances! This implosion certainly isn't their fault whatsoever! Who could make a ridiculous statement like that?
It's a good thing we have the Republican Party and an MBA president watching over our Treasury. Otherwise, if we had people living massively beyond their means, can you imagine the astronoimcal debt we'd be faced with?!
To quote Rudy Guiliani, "Thank God George Bush is president!"
