A great post as always, Glenn!
One thing you didn't mention, when media figures like Matthews are showering Tony Perkins with praise for being a "great man" and a respectable advocate for "family values", they seem to intentionally overlook the fact that in 1996, while Perkins was running the campaign of longtime conservative Woodie Jenkins, the right-wing Republican candidate for the US Senate in Louisiana, he paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,500 for his mailing list. On another occasion, Perkins addressed the Louisiana chapter of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC), the successor to the White Citizens Councils, which battled integration in the South.
Along with marital infidelity, the "Family Values" coalition never seems to have a problem with racism among their pious members either.
Seeing that cowardly, pulled-from-ass lie about Scott Ritter taking money from Saddam by "anonymous" (right-wingers are always as cowardly as they are ethically devoid) reminded me of that period of intense lying in late 2002-2003 when the media would run with any outrageous smear against Ritter because of what he was saying that exposed the bogus rationale for attacking and occupying Iraq.
The apex of outrageous garbage spewed by military "experts", and bought-and-sold ex-generals & ex-colonels on MSNBC and CNN (clowns that are today called upon for their “objective analysis” on Iran) regarding Ritter was when they created their sick pedophilia story about him. I remember getting a cold chill the morning that story broke. It was like living in a B movie where a lawless regime could so blatantly and pathetically try to discredit an opponent, and having the media diligently repeat it without question. That was one of the many clues I had early on that the war was being sold 100% on lies. While the media quickly shied away from that particular rightwing lie, I never heard them apologize for it... But apologizing for lying changed after 9/11.
.. about the rightwing’s lack of military service, flabby physiques, and bravery-free lifestyles, a perfect example of the media not applying the same "wimp factor" critique to the rightwing as they do to the left was when Karl Rove recently gave his farewell speech on the White House lawn.
When Rove was at the podium saying his goodbyes, I was immediately struck by the embarrassing, teary-eyed, don’t-leave-me-mommy look on George Bush’s face. You have to see the video, and observe how the press covered the event, to appreciate how our journalists seem to turn their heads rather than ever acknowledge George Bush's behavior. I can only imagine how the press would have eviscerated Bill Clinton if he had acted that way when his Deputy Chief of Staff resigned. With his chin quivering and blubbering like a 5 year old, Bush looked like a toddler abandoned at the playground. Yet, the press coverage reported it only as an “emotional” farewell. Or as Todd Gillman of the Dallas Morning News wrote, Bush had a “grim expression and glistening eyes”. Really? A “grim expression and glistening eyes”?
Of all the outrageously sad things that have occurred on Bush’s watch, Rove leaving is what brings out his most manifest public grief?
The only thing grim about Bush’s behavior is that he’s never once shown any “glistening eyes” for the thousands of men and women he sent to their graves. He’s only moved to puerile expressions of sadness when it affects his own little world (like a baby .. or a wimp).
Bush, a former fighter pilot, knew this full well ...

HAHAHAHA!!! Of all the things written here today, THAT was the funniest! And that was actually from a Bush supporter! It wasn't even sarcasm!
Imaging Bush telling himself he was once a "fighter pilot" is delusional enough, but that the 'Wombats of Wingnuttia' believe AND repeat that laughable twisting of reality, shows how far credulity has been stretched during the Bush years! I guess if you get an action doll by Hasbro made of you as a fighter pilot, then GOD-damn, boy! You're a FIGHTER PILOT!
I can almost see Bush 30 years from now, like Popeye, with kid sitting on his knee and Bush recalling that awful night he was on aerial reconnaissance over Alabammy with "commies to the left of me & turr-ists to the right! THAT'S when my experience as a fighter pilot REALLY came in handy!!"
God help us, and END this lunatic presidency already!
