The Reality Kid
[Read the article: The right-wing understanding of Government]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]”I know, in the grand scheme of things, I shouldn't let something like this bring my blood to a boil, but for some reason, it really gets under my skin.” -- The Reality Kid
OT but you’re right to be angry about it. I’m not aware of other high-caliber writers or artists (Joyce, Lawrence, Blake, Rimbaud) being reflexively “modified for our protection” the way they do with Lennon... the stigma of being a ‘mere rock n roller’, I guess.

[Read the article: The right-wing understanding of Government]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not to get way off topic, but I remember many years back, probably the early 80’s, seeing a clip of Pat Roberston on the 700 Club railing against ‘Let it Be’ because he said, “Mother Mary comes to me” was a reference to marijuana. To this day I have never heard anyone else make that weird leap as to what those lyrics meant. And considering the religious nature of the versions of that song done by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and The Persuasions, for wacko Robertson to use THAT song to attack the Beatles was truly bizarre!

From 'Born Again Christian' to 'Notorious Liar'
[Read the article: Leaders of the free world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]One of the underlying issues that I never hear addressed or documented since the overwhelming majority of the American people have come to realize that George W Bush, who campaigned in 2000 as a “born-again Christian”, and who said his favorite philosopher was “Jesus”, and who was going to bring “ethics and morals” to Washington in 2000 after the so-called “immoral” Clinton years, is that Bush is ethically ambivalent at best, and morally bankrupt at worst. Bush cynically used Christianity, had the majority of the American Christian community largely on his side throughout 2001-2004, and yet no one has ever been called to task for any of it. I never hear its dishonesty, hypocrisy, and corruption discussed at all. It’s as if it never happened.
There are remnants of it still alive. A perfect example of that is that Bush is the first president since Reagan who never goes to Sunday service, yet the media not only ignores that, they continue to play along with the Karl Rove narrative set in place 8 years ago (at least) that “Bush is a devout Christian”, despite there being nothing more than that manufactured narrative to support it.
From Bush’s lust for war, to torture, to his obscene levels of greed and dishonesty, his pathological addiction to lying, people now understand that’s who George W Bush is – but it wasn’t that long ago that the American Christian community held this swine in a higher regard than any president in my lifetime (since at least Johnson). Considering that an ACTUAL Christian president, Jimmy Carter, who adhered to the Christian faith in action as opposed to just words as Bush has done, was reflexively maligned for “lusting in his heart”, I have yet to hear any accounting or apologies from the Christian community in America that cheered on Bush and his war, now that tens of thousands of innocent lives have been murdered in vain by his actions, on top of his voracious greed and disdain for the poor that even his supporters don’t deny.
It wasn’t that long ago that Catholic priests across the nation would tell their parishioners that Bush was an honorable, Christian man of faith fundamentally doing God’s will. That period seems to have passed, but is there ever going to be any accounting for it? I would love to see Glenn Greenwald tackle that particular dark chapter in our nation’s history as it’s currently being swept under the carpet.

[Read the article: McCain's embarrassing assertions on the Iraq surge]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"You have so invested yourself in your hatred of George Bush that you refuse to recognize reality. I spent a year over there, I know how shitty things were. Wake fucking up man!" -- Steve Hatchet
Well, for those of us who never swung their dicks around pretending there was even one sound reason to attack and occupy a foriegn nation that posed no threat, and slaughter innocent people for purely ideological and corporate-driven reasons, looking for a silver lining on that huge pile of shit that is the Iraq occupation will never stop it from being a huge pile of shit.
It was 100% wrong to attack Iraq!
Period!
And every death there is, and has been, 100% wrong. "Things getting better" is as assinine a stance to take as it was to agree to be there in the first place.
LEAVE! That's the ONLY option!

Administration lackeys?
[Read the article: Debut of Salon Radio with Glenn Greenwald: An interview with Dan Ellsberg]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This could be a fantastic opportunity to interview some high-level administration members or media pundits who have never heard of you. If Keith Olbermann was unaware of you, it would be interesting to see what other big names don't know who you are. Bill Kristol? Douglas Feith? Condi Rice? Dick Cheney? Setup interviews with Salon press credentials and say you're doing a 'national feature'. Since 9 times out of 10 the press does fluff pieces on rightwingers, they probably wouldn't expect to be asked anything difficult.

"Criminalize Policy Differences"
[Read the article: The Washington Post editorial page's latest rule of law sermon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I come to a different conclusion on the facts, and I think that you mostly try to criminalize policy differences." -- Elephantman
In Limbaugh-land and FOX-world, breaking the law may be called 'a policy difference', but in the reality-based community that nonsense is considered .. nonsense.
