@Independence_2008

"To say that she alone is responsible for the killing of millions whereas Obama is simply responsible for helping to shred the Fourth Amendment IS a reprehensible GIMMICK to derail the discussion at hand. The more Obama 'changes' the more zealous and accusatory (and irrational) his hardcore supporters become in his defense."

-- Independence_2008

Oh, blow it out at your ass, little boy! To point out that Hillary, in a grotesque, politically calculated move gave military carte blanche to a drooling, homicidal imbecile, and lead to the death of one million plus men, women, children, and babies, doesn't make me a "zealous" "accusatory""hardcore" Barack Obama supporter. He wasn't my first or second choice for the Democratic ticket. The extremist Hillary supporters, like you, dismissed her “who could have imagined what would happen” behavour, and as I’ve been hearing quiet a bit today, somehow this vote “proves she was the best candidate”.

Bullshit!

The so-called "pragmatism" of Hillary's obsessive supporters continue to overlook and ignore her egregious experience from Iraq to Kyl/Lieberman to her “Obliterate Iran” garbage. Those of us who were neither "zealous" Obama or Clinton supporters, like you obviously are, are not going to pretend her vote today does anything to change that.

”You are an idiot and a zealot.”

And game. That’s called winning an argument. I hope you learned something.

In the future, if you’re going to accuse somebody of something, have at least some idea what you’re talking about.

Or, you can continue being an asshole.

A defenseless nation VS a bloodthirsty, homicidal regime

Iran is a country that has just witnessed a defenseless, neighboring country lose over one million of its citizens who were slaughtered unmercifully by a blood-thirsty, amoral, homicidal regime. The NIE has already stated conclusively that Iran has NO nuclear armaments and is hopelessly defenseless against that same imperialist conquering nation despite the incessant lying by the United States government to the contrary. How any rational person can side with the blood-thirsty, megalomaniac lunatic in the White House over a country clearly unable to defend itself against that morally bankrupt piece of filth is utterly insane. I just pray that the malevolent tyrant in Washington DC is taken out, violently if need be, before any more innocent people are slaughtered due to his cowardly, murderous, evil regime.

A realistic possibility of an International Tribunal?

I keep hearing that members of this administration should never travel abroad for fear of imprisonment for war crimes, but is there any realistic way an International Tribunal could at some point intervene to apply the Nuremberg Principles to the Bush administration's war crimes, regardless of what the US government wants or accepts, and enforce international law? It seems clear that the US government, regardless of party, is not going to intervene to stop the war crimes being committed in our name, and seeing how it's completely glossed over in Washington, it doesn't appear at all certain that it will end when Bush and Cheney are no longer in charge.

Beyond the Glass Curtain

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Tom Freidman is a narcissist. He views the every-day, common-‘suck-on-this’-man (i.e. the world) as people to which he is eminently superior – and he has the awards and commendations to prove it! He can’t imagine entire regions of the world seeing through the bullshit he promulgates, certainly not the majority of the world, and that’s what really baffles him. It’s the same delusion that baffles FOX talking heads -- if FOX viewers are easily manipulated, and they’re AMERICAN, then certainly the silly, dark-skinned people living in bombed out buildings with no running water can’t POSSIBLY have a deeper understanding of US actions.

To even entertain the idea that people in other parts of the world are smarter and more aware than Tom Friedman, is so far above Freidman’s limited little peanut-intellect that it can’t possibly register even for a split second.

Authoritarianism after 2008

"George Bush will likely leave office with this particular tyrannical power infrequently exercised but nonetheless vigorously asserted, defended, and close to established."

-- Glenn Greenwald

I wish I could believe that, but I don't for a split second think it will be infrequently exercised. As much as I think Barack Obama's ideology is too far to the right for comfort, this abuse of power will hopefully be infrequently exercised if he is the president. But if we get another dysfunctional, nickle-dicked Republican trying to prove his toughness after a lifetime of abject cowardice like George W Bush, then he or she will very likely abuse the authority they’ve been given just like Junior.

As hated as George W Bush and Dick Cheney are today by most Americans, the far right still not only won’t renounce their grotesque, totalitarian actions, they openly support it and want it to be even more severely oppressive and authoritarian.

Who could have imagined?

"The nomination of Judge Mukasey certainly shows a new attitude in the White House. Instead of simply throwing down the gauntlet, they are trying to meet us part of the way in choosing someone who by reputation and in his career has shown fidelity to rule of law above conservative politics."

- Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) / September 2007

"I'm glad President Bush listened to Congress and put aside his plan to replace Alberto Gonzales with another partisan administration insider,"

- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) / September 2007

“I will vote to confirm Michael Mukasey to be our next Attorney General... I truly believe he will be a strong Attorney General and will represent the best interests of the American people."

- Sen. Diane Feinstein (D. California) / September 2007

"Democrats and other Bush administration critics may have their differences with Mukasey, but right now all signs suggest that they will consider much him more than just “the President’s lawyer.”

- Joe Gandelman, Editor-In-Chief / The Moderate Voice / September 2007
