  • His & Her's Razors

[Read the article: Why can't gay dwarves get married in Middle-earth?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wow, I remember when a game came out and we argued about things like battle systems and AI and frame rate, you know...which one is the best. Now we argue about stuff that we shouldn't even be arguing about in real life. People's business is there own. Can't we get over this silly gay hang-up? Or is there really even that big of a hang-up anymore? Especially among younger people. Maybe this is simply another example of the "media" making drama, or old farts still clinging to old ideas and still trying to stop the world from changing.

All I know is that female Dwarves apparently LOOK like the males with beards and all. So can someone tell me if there's going to be griping about that too? Or will they "chickify" them enough that we'll all know that it's the good kind of love - male and female - not that icky someone-feels-uncomfortable kind that includes anything else?

  • Banner Ads

[Read the article: Yeah, but did Hitler invent the Internet?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

While I can not speak with any certainty, I imagine that the banner ad situation here is similar to that on TPM and other sites. This same issue came up there in the past when there were ad running on the site for Beck and even Coulter.

The way I believe it was explained was that it's a banner ad service that runs separately from the site for which they have no control over what ads cycle through. I'm no web guru (bows humbly before Al Gore's mighty acumen ^^) but I think that's probably what's happening here. I personally find it a bit ironic that those types of ads find themselves served to sites like this at such "Inconvenient Times" but I'm sure there's nothing more to it than that. Then again, my aluminum foil hat IS at the dry cleaners this morning!

  • Mr. McCain, your room is ready...

[Read the article: Make room for Daddy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

These so-called debates are an insult to the intelligence of any real thinking person. There is no debating going on. There is no real free-thinking going on. There is nothing but prepared answers to tailored questions all engineered to produce generic sound bytes that play well on TV and "sound" Republican enough to make their supporters happy.

It's a joke, and the Democratic "debates" are not much better.

While I agree it's a little frightening to think about having a President that refuses to acknowledge science...oh wait we already HAVE that, I think the low point of the night would have to be the near seizure McCain had in talking about how after 6 years of no one even caring anymore, he'd get all lathery about going after Bin Laden. The ironic point of the night was at the end of that maniacal statement where he vowed to pursue Bin Laden to the very gates of Hell. Since a lot of the serving Republicans are already in line for V.I.P. Suites at that place I'm sure running into Bin Laden there isn't really all that fantastical is it? I'd call it inevitable.

  • Get off the beach

[Read the article: Why we fight?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Listen, I'm all about finally bringing an end to the mess in Iraq. I also think that the Democrats in Congress should take the gloves off and start hitting this President and his administration hard. I want to hear the word "Fatality!" and I what to hear it soon! (admit it, a Street Fighter game with some of these clowns as fighters would be pleasantly and morbidly fun!)

But, this is the game of politics. And that includes clever yet annoying word games. I think that part of the attack HAS to be in terms of words because that is one of the battlefields that Congress has to fight this President on. The amount of spin, propaganda, talking points and out right lies that this administration has shoveled onto the American people and into all debate has got to be met head on. Look on the bright side, if this is pissing you off then I imagine it's pissing more people off. And if enough Americans are pissed off enough then maybe we can finally start fixing this broken country.

BTW, I think that Byrd and Clinton are absolutely correct: the conditions under which the authorization was given to Bush have been met. He has failed miserably in whatever efforts he was trying to make afterwards and therefore Congress should step in. If you have a General in command of an amphibious landing and he succeeds in taking the beach you leave him in command. But if after 4+ years he can't get his troops off the beach and keeps losing men and resources...you yank him. Actually, it should NEVER take that long.

  • Oh come on...

[Read the article: Is April the new September?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Hold it right there.

For the last few years the President and his hand-picked bobble heads have been throwing out future dates that they need to wait for to determine just how "successful" they have been. In all of those cases the magic number was 6 - as in 6 months. Mid-year last year we were tossed another 6 month period and then came the surge. The surge met with some unexpectedly strong resistance but they had a date to toss out for that too. And if I remember correctly it was April or May I think...approximately another 6 month window.

So now they are saying not only was that 6 month window not enough time to evaluate the "success" of the surge but they need more time... nearly a YEAR more time. ENOUGH!

If you have a tenant that keeps saying "I'll pay you the rent, I promise, next month!" how long exactly to you let him put it off before you kick his ass out on the curb? Do you wait until you can not afford to run your apartment building and go into bankruptcy or do you give him one or two chances and then act? Let's all stop pretending here and do something about this. Enough is enough.
