gay rights, actions vs. words

While McCain opposes same-sex marriage, he also opposed a federal constitutional amendment that would have defined marriage as being between a man and a woman.

While McCain's running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, has expressed support for the federal amendment, she vetoed a bill that would have banned her state from giving benefits to same-sex partners of employees.

Biden voted yes on the "Defense of Marriage" bill along with McCain.

Although Obama talks a good game his actions discredit his words....

Obama's fundraising tour through the American south earlier this year featured Reverend Donnie McClurkin who said he's "in a war with homosexuality" and Mary Mary (a sister act duo) who have compared gays to murderers and prostitutes.

More telling is:

During his Senate run in Illinois in 2004, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is said to have declined to have his picture taken with San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who was in the center of a national turmoil over his decision to allow same-sex marriage in the city.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported Tuesday that the snub took place at a fund-raiser hosted by former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.

"I gave a fund-raiser at (Obama's) request at the Waterfront restaurant," Brown told the Chronicle. "And he said to me, he would really appreciate it if he didn't get his photo taken with my mayor. He said he would really not like to have his picture taken with Gavin."

While the Obama campaign has denied the rumors, Newsom's staff has corroborated the event.

other polls have other results

Three out of four Democrats (74%) say the party's ongoing national convention has unified them as they roll out now in full force to put their nominee, Barack Obama, in the White House.

It's ok to be a Democrat and not vote for Obama

The legendary Tammy Haddad snags a scoop for Newsweek, sitting down with prominent Washington DC attorney John Coale -- a fundraiser for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY -- at the Republican convention, now backing Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

"Well I'm here to go from supporting Hillary, who I campaigned with, I campaigned with her husband, her daughter, her whole family, brothers, and the mother, over a period of months, big Hillary supporter, pretty big fundraiser for her, I'm here to support John McCain for president," said Coale, husband of FOX News' Greta Van Susteren.

Coale has given thousands of dollars in donations to Democrats over the years. He was a prominent supporter of Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., in 2004, raising money from lawyers who had like him worked on lawsuits against the tobacco industry. When Kerry endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, Coale subjected him to a "tongue-lashing," in the words of the New York Times.

"I think John McCain is basically what Obama says he is and what Obama is not," Coale said. "McCain brings people together, he has an incredible record of integrity."

Coale griped about sexism against Clinton, said Obama isn't experienced enough to be president, and argued that the Democratic party has "been taken over by the moveon.org types."

re: jcourt

At least McCain is honest about his position, Obama says he believes in one thing then acts in the completely opposite manner.....kind of like the guy currently living in the white house.

As far as the saddleback church quote.....that is an issue of state rights vs. federal law, not a position on gay rights.

Mccain bases his support for Amendment 8 on the same reason.

While I disagree, I can at least respect his position.

I find Obama's pretense more offensive and more dangerous.

It will take more than a single speech convincingly read off a Teleprompter

for me to vote for Obama.

I was born and raised in Macomb County, land of the Reagan democrats

right next door to Detroit.

When I grew up the county was almost exclusively white but last time I visited I did notice more black people moving out of Detroit and into the suburbs, along with other races.

There has always been this kind of mutual loathing between Detroit and the surrounding suburbs.

To explain how such a corrupt mayor could still hold office you only need to look at former Detroit mayors. Colman Young most notably.....he was mayor for about as long as I could remember.

He purposely created this animosity between Detroit and the mostly white suburbs. It was a convenient target for him to rail against and blame all of Detroit's problems on.....it's the evil white suburbs that are destroying Detroit.

There is still this feeling of us against them which I guess it my round about explanation as to how a criminal like Kilpatrick can still be in office.

Kilpatrick didn't do anything wrong.....it's the man trying to keep him down, etc. Unfortunately that kind of racism still works in Detroit.

Over half of U.S. voters (51%) think reporters are trying to hurt Sarah Palin

with their news coverage.

The findings, nevertheless, are troublesome for the embattled news industry and parallel what voters said in surveys earlier this summer. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of voters now believe most reporters try to help the candidate they want to win, and 49% believe reporters are trying to help Obama this year. Only 14% think they are trying to help McCain. In another survey, 55% said media bias is a bigger problem for the electoral process than large campaign donations.

While this helped Obama vs. Hillary, this will hurt him against McCain.......told ya!
