It reaally is true that we have been so accustomed and acclimated to the shrill adolescence of the right that we tend to ignore when they do their schtick.
I guess it's like when you have two siblings and one is a spoiled, whiny brat; the other a generally, well-behaved and polite.
As a parent I guess you get used to it and just learn to live with it. But if the polite one lets a curse word slip it's really a shock.
I agree that the "betray us" ad was not the right path to take. Leave little word games like that to others, not to an organization such a MoveOn.
Thanks Glenn, superb as usual.
It can't be emphasized enough about the demoCRAT Luntzian phrasing.
Now, Defeatocrat is just fine.
Seriously, they need to be called on that every time. Thom Hartmann called it on Bob Barr (I think that's his name, ex-republican congressman??) the other day. Thom stopped him dead in his tracks and said the correct phrase is "democratic".
Loved it.
Bush says he listens to the Boots on the Ground. I guess those Boots are penny-loafers and the Ground is a berber-carpeted Townhome in some suburb somewhere.
To the Kagan's of the world, soldiers are really nothing more than game pieces in their Global Game of Risk. Soldiers die in war, they say, because that is what soldiers are supposed to do: die in war. They die in the wars they proposed and planned and pushed yet never partake. Penny-loafers are not meant for blood and bits of brain and body parts; they are for accelerating the gas-pedal of their German-made sedan as they rush to make their Oh-So Important Dinner Date with other Masters of the Universe.
These Great Thinkers swirl around in each others cocktail parties regaling each other with mutual Slaps to the Back and how intelligent they are as they sip on a chardonnay and browse through the Robb report as they imagine themselves as the Great Warriors here to fianlly save America.
I think if you were to just threaten one of these Great Warriors with serving anywhere near a military zone that their bowels would purge uncontrollably and their weak knees would turn to jelly until they collapsed into a heap of their own, putrid waste.
Glenn, you rock as always. Thank God you are on the Good Guys' side.
Mukasey sounds as about as good as it will get.
Politically, it would seem more prudent to confirm him while using the confirmation proceedings to highlight the abuses of the Bush regime
But confirm him and get the story done with and continue on with more important matters.
I think Bush would love nothing more than to have no one confirmed and have a stalemate at the DOJ with nothing being accomplished.
I called Senator Reid's office (sorry, forgot the nice fellows name that I spoke with) and here's the gist:
They had not heard anything about this. As I was on the phone, the guy got on-line and started reading Glenn's article.
He went on to say that Sen. Reid respects all holds and will confer with his collegues.
I then told him that we are really against telecom amnesty and it looks very suspicious that Sen. Reid receives so much from the telecom industry.
We'll see what happens.
I have not felt this energized since the elections in 2006.
I hope Dodd, et al can keep it going.
Ross Perot. Perot ran as the anti-establisment guy (although he was filthy rich.)
He excited me for the same reasons as Ron Paul is exciting so many (non-Republican?) voters - speaking in non-beltway lingo; speaking to we, the people, the voters.
Perot had many populist positions, he of course, was just too funny looking (Kucinich)and loony (Paul) to be taken seriously by the bobble-heads. If I remember correctlyl the right-wing smear merchants got to him about his daughters wedding or something and he went bye-bye. But for a while his charts and infomercial campaign spots really shook up the process for a while.
It's just a shame that Paul is such a nut-case with 70% of his policies.
Big Question: If Ron Paul runs as third party candidate, who does he harm?
Glenn,
Nothing, I mean nothing, makes my blood boil more than your reports on the Democratic leadership, specifically Harry Reid.
The battle we are fighting is hard enough against the Republicans, but then to have to turn around and fight the Democrats, it is maddening.
I've come to expect corruption from the Republicans, and I'm no democrat, but they were my last hope.
I know Feingold, et al read this site. I hope they make a stand.
More better democrats. Can't happen soon enough.
Thanks Glenn.
And the guy I spoke with was none too happy. He had his script at the ready: we are protecting America and civil liberties blah blah blah.
I tried to conentrate on the telecom immunity. He wanted to filibuster me and not even talk about it. To say he was frustrated is an understatement.
The number I called: 202) 225-4831
Of course I fully expect defeat to be snatched from vitory at some point.
But perhaps we are witnessing in the Democrats the courage and insight that we wish they would have had from day one.
I think they've tested the waters and realize that they need to pander to us, their base, instead of the Republicans.
To point out the untruthiness of the establishment. Look Glenn, these guys have editors and offices and shiny pages!
You're probably in your boxers right now, so pffff.
Otherwise another superb job.
Congrats Glenn. I can't wait to get your latest.
Perhaps in the next week or so you can give us some background on what media is and is not contacting you.
I'd like to think by now that at least Olbermann would begin to have you on.
Are you getting any nibbles from the MSM?
