Bush hopes to leave a proud legacy behind when he leaves office. Leaving Iraq in defeat is more than even this despot can stand. Having said all this, I think we must realize that this President is sadly afflicted by the Spoiled Brat Syndrome (SBS). [Notice how I followed my term with the proper intitials to make it look scholarly!]
Expect American bases to remain in Iraq as long as our forces have remained in place in Europe after the termination of WWII. Yes they are still there, and firmly entrenched. And of course, there will be the most expensive Embassy in the world in Iraq, This is just a result of Bush's need to be remembered as the President who spread our ecomonic and military influence over the world.
Remember, the Romans only left their colonized empire behind after they began to collapse from within, and at the same time, faced growing hatred in their world. Sound familiar, citizens?
John Edwards has made it clear that we must actively work to tear down the wall which separates us from our government, and the battle won't end just because we have another election coming up. He points out that the inner class has spent tons of money and years of time erecting the wall. It seems clear that the elite do not listen to the electorate, we the people. He seems much like FDR from bygone years.
McCain, is busily shooting from the hip right now. Unfortunatly he forgets to pull his weapon from his holster before he pulls the trigger, and shoots himself in the foot time after time. I hope the remnants of racial bias has diminished enough in our country. We will see come November. I think That the two other Democrats, alive here in Idaho, have hopes, even if a bit excitement in seeing our country turning the corner and moving away bigotry. It has taken too much time!
In recent time, the word "liberal" has been given a negative meaning by the ultraconservatives. Let us go back a bit, Liberal means one who values liberty and freedom. Liberal arts colleges don't advocate McCain. They work for freedom of thought. Want to send The Statue of Liberty back? Now we say, progressive, when before Gingrich if was liberalism. Let us go back and value our freedoms, our liberty. Good for Obama, who speaks clearly and openly in the political arena.
Obama, in his book, The Audacity of Hope, writes that being able to talk with people with whom you strongly differ is a part of problem solving. Working with Republicans to get a job done is just part of the man. He chooses a person with whom he differ to be the minister at the inaugeration ceremony is just one example of this. He is a pragmatist. It is good to have the Bush boys on the sidelines for a change, isn't it? Give him a chance!
