I love the sound of wingnut ranting in the morning!

Years from now this time will be remembered as "stupidity II", the second time government lengthened a depression due to liberal, populist, political expediency.

-- tim stevens

Do I like paying higher taxes? No I do not.

But if that's the price of getting the country moving again, and of keeping all those "useless" government employees working, like cops, teachers, nurses, firefighters, and oh yeah, troops--what a bunch of losers, huh?--then I'll pay up, and be glad to do so.

But hearing the keening sound of wingnuts wailing to the heavens? Pure gravy, baby! Really takes the sting off those taxes.

Here's a clue, tim and all the others: outside your little circle, Americans don't really hate FDR, or take your view of the Depression. He's actually thought of as one of the more successful presidents.

All you cheap-labor Republicans brought this collapse upon us, after decades of telling us that your real God, The Market, would make everything beautiful. Well, He failed. And now, after forcing us to pay trillions for Bush's Luxury War, and for bailing out your Masters of the Universe on Wall Street, you want to whine about using debt to forestall utter collapse? Forget it. You had your chance. See those flames surrounding us? They're your doing. Enjoy.

Hooray, Something Stinks! IMPENETRABLE circularity!

Just have your man release the document from 1961 and the case is closed.

At least until the Secret Service provides him with a decent forgery. They keep track of the best forgers out there...

See, so even if he releases the hospital birth certificate--which, unlike the state certificate that was released, has no legal force, as was explained ad nauseum on Friday--then it's really just a fake! ($5 says the wingnutosphere typewriter/font experts will demonstrate it to us, over pages and pages of text, within one hour of its release.)

Bravo, sir! Keep the faith!

Oh, Bearpaw, Bearpaw, Bearpaw: "suspicious?"

It's IACIYAD: It's a crime if you're a Democrat.

Wisconsin Reader: they shrank themselves just a bit more over the last few days

The Republicans just told Joe the Auto Worker to FOAD the other day. There have to be a few white, blue-collar Republican voters in the Midwest that were alarmed by that kind of game-playing with the country's economy. (And in the south? Do they think that no southern Republican voters are going to realize the effect two million unemployed Midwestern auto workers, moving south for work, would have on their own wages or employability?)

But no. It's an economic policy of Cheap Labor Republicanism, all the time, now. Their party is doomed to shrink to only those whose hate for Messcans/Homos/Libruls/N*****s/Towelheads/etc is stronger than their own sense of self-preservation.

@ T. Suarez

Had he done this under Saddam, he'd have been hauled out and shot.

Where the fuck have you been for the last five years? Getting "hauled out and shot" has been happening to ordinary Iraqis on a daily basis, because they happened to be the wrong ethnic group in the wrong place at the wrong time, or because they pissed somebody powerful off, or just because. Their bodies have been dumped on Iraqi streets with depressing regularity. And yes, it's just as commonly been done by whoever our local "allies" have been at the moment, as it has been done by our "enemies."

So yes, the question is, will he be hauled out and shot? If you were serious, I would expect you to keep an eye on his situation.

Honestly, though, I don't really think you give a damn.

More for cestmoi...

When the Lancet report came out (and remember, it's now sadly out of date), among the 650k+ civilian deaths that happened because of the war, they attributed over 135,000 to "aerial bombardment."

I don't know if you're keeping track, but the Mahdi Army ain't exactly got a lot of Apache helicopters. That blood's on our hands, and no one else's.

@ kipouros

Is it supposed to be funny? Does the "too much food" line have anything to do with...anything?

Umm..yeah: the "ordered too much food?" Directly related to "just smoked gigantic blunt."

*Sigh*

And since someone's had to explain the joke, now it's no longer funny.

Yes, Wallaby, a country is measured by their companions who massacre civilians

A Fascist group marching with an anti-Gaza war protest, huh? You don't say?

Guess what once-ruling European party the Phalangists were a franchise of?

Here's a big hint: they had pretty much the same name.

Na-Nixon of the North

Jeez, Governor, you're supposed to get all-powerful--like, um, on a national stage--before you start lashing out in all directions. Otherwise, you just look like Blagojevich with better hair and poorer taste in poetry.

And how many INHABITED parts of Alaska can you see Russia from, anyway?

Looking on Google Earth, I can only identify a couple of towns within ~90 mi. of Russia: Little Diomede Island, in the Bering Strait, and Wales, on the Strait. (No, Attu Island isn't even close.) Combined population: maybe 300?

The point being that the vast majority of Alaskans live hundreds of miles from Russia. So, while Alaska is strategically important, seeing Russia is not exactly part of the daily experience of most Alaskans.

Oh Karl, you're too late

There's a reporter in Iraq who has already delivered my message.
