Thanks to that Nancy Reagan had to work extra hard in the 80s to counteract "Everyone's Turnin On" with her "Just Say No" anti drug campaign.
Barbara seems to be the queen of passive agressive and Elisabeth is an idiot. Wonder how passionate and extreme she would be in her views if she was raped and couldn't get access to this form of contraception because someone else had a strong opinion about when life actually starts. I believe extremism and an unyielding rhetoric are damanging to our lives. However I saw nothing in their discussion that crossed the line. Some people are so afraid when voices get raised. Elisabeth needs to be in a summit - discussion - debate of some kind where everyone can get passionate for a while and maybe some new understanding could ensue for all those involved by the end of the experience but that is too heavy for a light talk show.
That actually made me feel a bit nauseated and claustrophic. Still its a cool idea.
Multiculturalism implies tolerance and respect of differences. That is a value. That is not a value shared by everyone's culture, religion etc. Multiculturalism can't work if the groups we try to respect do not respect differences in everyone. In other words you cannot tolerate intolerance if you want it to work. So everyone can have their own values, customs, and beliefs but the core value shared by everyone must be respect and tolerance for differences without resorting to acts of judicial, physical, verbal, or political harm. Muslim extremists don't have such values (or extremist of any kind for that matter. The statement of "listening to the wrong kinds of muslims" makes sense. There is smart multiculturalism and naive multiculturism. Naive multiculturism is dead and smart multiculturism is necessary.
Why not just insert a dildo into the turbo stroker so we can see exactly how it is suppose to work? They are almost there anyway.
As cute as it may be...why is it on here?
I am a psychotherapist and I am disappointed at the therapist that speak in support of Nancy Grace. I feel like all psychotherapists are more or less commitment to seeking different and especially hidden truths. The fact that this psychotherapist doesn't recognize the obvious exploitation of Nancy Grace's style is a very embarassing representation of the profession. Nancy's shrill style indicates more blood lust and self congratulatory limelighting than compassion or professionalism. I think that was clear when she was interviewing Elizabeth Smart and wouldn't respect Elizabeth's boundaries (not to mention all the ugly crime photos that repeatedly went sliding over the screen as the poor girl was talking). I can see Nancy heading one of those lunatic lynch mobs you heard about in the old days ready with a noose and rallying those behind her without any due process for the suspect. I thought she could have been worse in the interview based on what I've seen and yes I do wonder why the mother didn't reveal the answer to simple questions but this pales in comparison to the hypocrisy that passes for advocacy when in fact it is mere sensationalism. These crimes nourish Nancy Grace. She always seems to salivating for the next lurid meal.
I love the dreamy fuzzy warm image of Santorum surrounded by a loving wife and children.
The little girl can't count so she bombed.
Great stuff.
Is this an episode of Mad TV?!
Yeah those Freudian slip ups are all over the place. I wasn't as offended as I thought I might be (and I am gay). He just sounds like someone who became overly self conscious and made himself sound worse and more awkward than he already sounded. And yes he did sound gay actually. Ha! There is an malicious little trickster spirit out there making people like this guy and Kerry slip up and we really love the schadenfreude. I suppose I should take this more seriously but I have heard far worse and I worry more when it comes from a politician or a judge. I am just glad that we are more aware of what is appropriate and what isn't.
So he says he is not a racist but I would argue that everyone is racist to some degree and we all vary between hateful at one end of the continuum to just being biased on the other side of that continuum. There is no doubt in my mind that his actions were racist. I think anyone who heckles somebody during their comedy routine is a rude jerk but comedians are expected to be able to handle that professionally. I don't feel as sorry for those hecklers as I do for Michael Richards because ulimtately this is something he did to himself. If he had handled the hecklers well people would be siding against the hecklers. If the hecklers were white he wouldn't have had the opportunity to cite painful and abusive historical references like lynching and the "n" word. Why did he have to go there? Perhaps his intent was to be edgy but it seemed to reveal his rage more than a calculated attempt to be witty. Few people laughed and most people apparently felt uncomfortable and offended. That reaction can tell you whether it was comedy or something that appeared to be out of control. I think attempts to convince us whether he is racist or not or whether he represents white people or not are completely futile. I think we need to see that he did a racist thing and I agree with him that he needs to soul search. In addition to addressing his own racism he ought to also look into anger management.
