Re the comment: "But part of me feels that it is glorifying obesity, a condition that contributes to diabetes, heart disease and a host of other serious medical ailments."
Obesity does not automatically mean you will have "diabetes, heart disease or a host of other serious medical ailments." Accepting those who are fat/overweight/obese for the unique individuals they are does not mean you are glorifying bad health.
I'm obese according to BMI (which is useless as a measure anyway but that's another letter). I exercise and eat right most of the time. My blood sugar is 87. My cholestorol is 207 but my HDL is double my LDL so I'm doing great there. All my tests are within normal ranges. My blood pressure is excellent. As long as I keep exercising and eating a variety of foods, I should be fine until age starts working against me. I am putting more stress on my hips, knees and ankles but that can be accomplished with too much exercise by a skinny person too (just ask a former gymnast).
It's a fallacy to think that being overweight AUTOMATICALLY means an unhealth lifestyle and inevitable slide into ill health. Why is it acceptable to judge someone just on their appearance when they are fat? Because it's easy? Makes you feel better about yourself?
I'm disappointed that Salon starred this comment.
I really loved Adrian Pasdar in this show. I think it was his best role and best performance. I haven't seen him in Heroes because I have less time for TV now but maybe I should add it to my limited viewing list.
I'm definitely going to get the DVD boxed set to see the episodes I missed. It's interesting how many of our cancelled shows get sold to Europe and they get to watch all the episodes.
behind the screen and in front of it. He wasn't perfect (who is?) but his work was consistent and thoughtful.
We need more like him.
