Pitul and sad

Hilllary Clinton, as usual, went directly for the lowest common denominator. Her supporters usual selfish and destructive behavior is in no way surprising.

The fact that some of them could attack Barack Obama for making a speech about the Iraq War instead of voting against it when he wasn't even in the U.S. Congress at the time is incredibly sad.

So I figured I'd give them an excerpt of that speech, which they love to deride, but which is actually brilliant and far-sigthed. Unlike not reading the National Intelligence Estimate (as Hillary didn't.)

"I am not opposed to all wars. I’m opposed to dumb wars.

So for those of us who seek a more just and secure world for our children, let us send a clear message to the president today. You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure that the UN inspectors can do their work, and that we vigorously enforce a non-proliferation treaty, and that former enemies and current allies like Russia safeguard and ultimately eliminate their stores of nuclear material, and that nations like Pakistan and India never use the terrible weapons already in their possession, and that the arms merchants in our own country stop feeding the countless wars that rage across the globe.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to make sure our so-called allies in the Middle East, the Saudis and the Egyptians, stop oppressing their own people, and suppressing dissent, and tolerating corruption and inequality, and mismanaging their economies so that their youth grow up without education, without prospects, without hope, the ready recruits of terrorist cells.

You want a fight, President Bush? Let’s fight to wean ourselves off Middle East oil, through an energy policy that doesn’t simply serve the interests of Exxon and Mobil.

Those are the battles that we need to fight. Those are the battles that we willingly join. The battles against ignorance and intolerance. Corruption and greed. Poverty and despair."

Still think he's an idiot?

Have to know what the regular debates would look like

Because if it's going to be more of the George Stephanopoulos/Charlie Gibson 45 minute hitjob then this might be better.

Otherwise no.

But I am serious on that. You have to look at WHO the debate moderators are first. IMHO, some of the most partisan news hacks out there have an unfortunate reputation of being good debate moderators and hence get chosen. Think 40-50ish male, extremely boring in the Peter Jennings prototype.

Brit Hume is widely trumpeted as one of the better debate moderators. This guy's as partisan as they get. If they're going to let him host one of the three, and Georgie S. and Charlie Gibson host another one, then I say go for this instead.

Joan why bring up Harriet Christian and Geraldine Ferraro

Really? I mean really.

Look I was ready to say Obama SHOULD embrace a very strong feminist platform. Equal pay is something we can all bet behind (women make what 75 or 85 cents on the dollar as opposed to men?), it's intrinsically unfair and the whole country could rally behind it.

But honestly when you bring up HARRIET FREAKIN CHRISTIAN and Geraldine Ferraro as legitimate examples, I'm sorry no sane person can go along with that. No one. Are you serious? Do you in any way support anything Harriet Christian said? "Inadequate black man"? Come on, Joan, you've got to be better than that.

Previously resisted some of the more strident calls of others, but if you honestly believe that then you do have some serious racial problems. You're better than that. And you know it.

And sitting down to lunch with Geraldine Ferraro? Sigh. And you wonder why some people think this whole pro-Hillary white woman movement has not only a tinge of entitlement but an even stronger whiff of "get to the back of the bus black boy" to it. Give me a break.
