Still don't think she really wants it

Read both accounts. In one she merely says, "I'm open to it." And in the other, even Ben Smith a reporters who has been very friendly to her in the past over at the Politico, admits she answered gruffly.

Why would Hillary Clinton want to be Vice President, number 2, again? She effectively already played this role in the first Clinton White House. Why bother with it twice?

Don't get me wrong, no idea if it happens or not. The Party might try to put pressure on her to take it and Obama might agree. Or he might not. Don't know. Not saying it won't happen, and in terms of getting some of her voters it might be the best idea.

But I don't buy that Hillary Clinton either really wants this or would be best at it. Why not Senate Majority Leader? There she could effectively run something, the Senate, and be in charge of implementing the Democratic Party's entire legislative platform. It's almost as prestigious of a job as VP, she would be the most powerful woman in the history of America and the most powerful member of the Congrees, and she could be in charge. Harry Reid's an admitted disaster by everyone behind the scenes.

Better VPs

"Since you hate Hillary so much, who would be a better VP?"

Easy: Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. Not because she's a woman, but because we're quickly going into a recession. And she remains the only governor, living or dead, I've ever heard of who managed to wipe out a $1.1 billion debt in six years. Frankly she's the only PERSON I've ever heard of doing that. Plus she's an executive and has run something (a state) which Hillary cannot say. She's never been a big fan of the war in Iraq (also unlike Hillary) and has stood up repeatedly to Bush with regard to his repeated insistence on over-deploying our National Guard. And she's managed to increase education funding and raise test scores, K-12.

Other people who would make better VPs would be Jim Webb and Mark Warner. Among Clinton supporters (if that's the way you want to go) Wes Clark and Ted Strickland would be better.

The point is not just that the Vice Presidential candidate is supposed to be Obama's choice, but rather that it's supposed to be a choice one thinks through.

Hillary's pushing so hard because she doesn't want Obama to do that think. Or actually examine who would be the best VP. Cause it probably wouldn't be her.

And her own people are already hinting at what some of us have been saying forever: she doesn't really want it. Why would she? She's already ran a White House for 8 years as a number 2. If today showed us anything it's that her ego's grown. Why not take time and consider the best options for everyone? She might want to be Senate Majority Leader or a Supreme Court Justice or maybe even Governor of New York (since she keeps insisting Obama will lose.) Hurrying hurts him and her, both.

Not really necessary and she would hate it

Gonna repeat earlier suggestion: give her another important job early. Push that incompetent Harry Reid out (no one up there supports him anyway, this is the easy part) and make her Senate Majority Leader (slightly harder part.) That way she'll be busy, hugely important, actually be doing something and galdly campaign for the larger Democratic ticket.

Or offer her Supreme Court Justice or even Secretary of State. She, personally, seems lukewarm to the VP anyway. (Bill, Lanny Davis, Manny Grunwald and others are pushing it, she seems unsure.) Why not see what else she might want? And agree to make her healthcare platform the Party's healthcare platfrom at the convention.

Now as for one of her supporters (Wes Clark or Ted Strickland) being VP, I think that's negotiable.

List of better VPs remains unchanged: Sebelius, Webb, Warner, Clark, Strickland, Biden and Edwards.
