"Segregation today, segregation tomorrow and segregation --- forever!"

Of course she's trying to channel George Wallace. The Clintons have been using race to try and try a wedge between whites and blacks, since this campaign began. They realized Obama, especially post Bill's stupid South Carolina remarks, was getting much of the black vote which any Democrat needed to win.

So instead of actually appealing for it, they went the lazy, disgusting route and decided to drive race right through the middle of this thing like a mack truck.

And the sad part is her supporters not only know it, but are GLADLY going along with it.

Take this gem from one of her supporters on here not even three days ago:

"I know one thing for sure. How AA's have been voting during this primary and what they've been posting on the forums has definitely made them more suspect in my eyes. Let's just say that civility will remain, but the chances of anything beyond that are greatly diminished. It would be better if we just agreed to keep our personal spaces separate -- and leave it at that."

I mean do Hillary supporters even UNDERSTAND what they're doing? You're adding a new layer and depth of racism this country has never seen and attempting to FORCE-FEED IT ON A YOUNGER, LESS PREDJUDICED GENERATION SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO SUPPORT A BLACK CANDIDATE WHO APPEALED TO THEM.

It's really disgusting.

Try, for one minute, to put yourself in the position of someone black in this country, look at the history of African-Americans (which is in fact ALL of our history since we are all Americans), quit being mad your candidate lost and consider how YOU might feel if you finally had a candidate that is able to motivate millions of unprecedented new supporters, give some of the best speeches this country has ever heard, had the sense to oppose this war from the start, opposes stupid gas tax gimmicks and attempts to talk to voters as if they're adults.

This goes along with the whole Clinton "he's not qualified to be dogcatcher" narrative. Too bad.

Change is coming in this country. Slowly, painfully, but it's coming. You can get used to it or find yourself behind the times. The choice is yours.

But we're not going to live in 1956 forever. Some of us are moving forward. Come join the future. We refuse to fear each other, irrationally, anymore.

Also look where she's going next -- KY and WV and then interpret the comments

Not to throw more fuel on the fire (as I do sometimes inadvertently) but look where this campaign's headed next. West Virginia, then Kentucky.

West Virginia is not only one of the (how to say this?) whittest state in the Union but also one of the oldest. As a matter of fact it's the 3rd oldest state, behind only Florida and Pennsylvania.

I think, sometimes, people forget that Hillary Clinton is a very smart woman who always thinks 2 or 3 steps ahead. IMHO (and again know it's been argued) this IS an attempt to appeal to some of the more nativist tendencies of some of these voters.

As others have put it far better, many of them were born in a far different time even than Hillary's peers. Sometimes the messages that are sent to them can be coded.

Bottom line: Clinton knew this would be covered, knew it would feed into an already existing narrative, and knew it would play well with voters in West Virginia.

Why do you think there's been no reaction to this story but Howard Wolfson is out there on Hardball saying, "She needs to win West Virginia by 15 points." She's still playing to win. Sorry, but I'm just not buying into this notion that what she's saying is incidental and she's just riding the clock out. She's playing to win.

Not only don't I agree but am sorry for any real pain people are feeling and recognize there IS sexism

Certainly not everything Hillary Clinton has said or done in this campaign is racist. Certainly she has been charged with racism (unfarily) on more than one occassion. Certainly the amount of sexism in this campaign has been shocking, disgusting and enough to shake anyone. For that I'm sorry.

Having said that there have been times where I think Hillary (and even more times where Bill) has, if not been racist certainly used racially divisive politics to their advantage.

Given Bill Clinton's very intimate knowledge of African-Americans and black culture it is hard to believe it is accidental (especially on his part.) Add in the statements of some of his very close friends (some of whom are black to be fair) like Robert Johnson and you really have to start to wonder.

Hillary Clinton does have things to recommend her. Understand to me they're few and far between, and her faults (especially her recent statements with regards to Iran, Iraq, bankruptcy bill) far overwhelm them.

Hope (some) Clinton supporters come around in the end and realize the issues, like a hundred years in Iraq and McCain's promise to appoint conservative justices, win out. But again, not female and can't understand the level of hurt many of her supporters (who have loyally supported the party) have undergone. For that I am sincerely and deeply sorry. We will, all of us as Party, try to do better.

Also don't blame all of the faults of Obama's supporters on Obama. To me, he's done his best (not perfect, but best) to be respectful of Hillary Clinton, particularly now. The Democratic Party needs her base, WCW and white women. Think she's not giving Obama enough credit for what he is getting here, but still.
