The thing Joan, and some others don't get, is we're on to the game.
Bill Clinton let the cat out of the bag himself. "We're not quitters."
Hillary Clinton has made it clear she intends to STEAL this nomination by any means necessary. She intends to make them count not only all of Florida, but all of Michigan where hers was the only name on the ballot. Moreover she intends to ensure that Senator Obama will not even get all of the uncommitted, which was clearly by voters leaning towards him but unused to voting in Communist-style elections where only one name is on the ballot, Michigan vote.
I'll be nice. As nice as I can. But I'm sorry, I'm with Rachel Maddow, I'm just not buying this, "She's getting ready to get out of the race, real soon, really . . . just we can't tell you when you know late May, July, maybe August, who knows? How's the convention work for you?"
No. She lost. Now go ahead and play this out, but come June 3 or June 6 she needs to be out of this thing.
And please tell her supporters (many of whom I like) to quit trying to cheat. Even Bayh (who's a favorite of mine and the type of person I would LOVE to see her make Obama take on the ticket) had the nerve to broach the idea of a re-vote in Michigan and Florida DURING THE CONVENTION. WTF? That's the most illegal, illogical formula for cheating I've ever heard in my life.
Here's what we want from the Clinton campaign, and it ain't much: SOME clue that when she loses this thing (which she is almost certain to do) either a: she will drop out or b: all responsible parties will go to her and explain that by all rules governing any party EVER she has lost and must (like every other candidate on the earth) drop out.
If we were to get even a HINT of any of these things we'd back off. But as it is now, she simply can't be trusted to do this. Feinstein and Schumer seemed to hint they were, almost, ready to do this today. But after last night's result we need some insurance someone somewhere is going to do this. Or the supers can grow some guts and quit trying to work backroom deals.
Since it's now being broached that he might HAVE to take her, help me out, but even in this zombie world I sort of just assumed it was a fact she would pretty much HAVE to take Obama.
Unlike others I still think there's a decent chance she's working on or worked out some scheme to try and steal this nomination. And I still think there's a chance it works. Small but I wouldn't go as low as others say 20%.
But given that John Kerry got 84% of the black vote and lost the presidency, and African-Americans are currently FURIOUS at her, does she even really have a choice BUT to take Obama? If you're a Democrat, any Democrat, you have to get at least 90% of that vote to win. If you don't believe me ask Bill Clinton, he got 90 both times and barely eeked out a victory both times. Honestly, just didn't know it was still a question.
Add in his fundraising and most importantly the tens of millions of young new voters he brings and I just kind of thought she HAD to take Obama. Heck she and Bill admitted that 3 months ago when they hinted at the Dream Ticket.
This article was just another attempt to explain how, Europeans, really viewed America, what their motives were and how they founded it earlier than we all know.
NO!
The Native Americans were here. There was NO FOUNDING OF AMERICA. Get over it. Stop trying to lie about it, spin it, and work your way around it.
The continued attempt to not only fight for the status quo that Europeans somehow founded this country, but the more recent attempts to argue they actually FOUNDED IT EARLIER (be it the Spanish, these so-called Nordic conquests by Erik the Red and others for which there is absolutely no evidence and other ideas) is a sad part of our continued history to insist that Europeans somehow, anyhow FOUNDED this country.
You can't found a place someone else lived. Deal with it.
We need to learn to treat this as the Romans treated their conquest of Britain. They just admit they it was a conquest not a founding, that sure the people already there (Celts, Saxons, etc.) seemed barbaric to them but on closer inspection they actually were very unique, intelligent, and brave with traditions of their own. Through the intermingling of the TWO traditions and a variety of other factors they ended up where they are today.
Would that we could do the same with the Native Americans. But that would require realizing, on some level, that they weren't inferior but rather had a society of their own which we chose to conquer and then use those lessons to form our country. We're not the first to do so. And we won't be the last.
We're just the last to admit it.
