Because there is no way to soothe Hillary supporters

You try to be nice to her in a debate, not hit back, not treat her like you're the Republican and she's the Democrat, like she does Obama, and her supporters start laughing and screaming about how weak you are.

You beat her soundly in 12 straight states, you slam her, you win everything it's possible to win, and then when you point out, like any sane person would at the end of any competition, it's over and they start screaming sexism.

Be nice to them and you're weak and patronizing. Be straight up with them and you're mean and sexist. The reason we stopped trying to win Hillary supporters over is because there is simply no way to win them over.

The funniest thing is still the debates where, when he pulled her chair out for her he was being sexist and when he didn't he was being mean.

When he wouldn't talk to her he was a rude, bullying man. When he told her, "I think you're nice" he was a sexist, belittling pig.

The point is there's no way to win with her and her supporters. Frankly this goes back to some of our feelings that a certain Hillary segment thought this would be a coronation and are mad simply because it isn't. But that's not the way democracies work. We have elections. And she's losing them.

Clinton get ready for the Obama presidency

If the debate was the first example of the Clinton rules I'd suggest it backfired. 20,000 angry comments on abcnews.com, many from old people who admit this is the first time they've ever bothered to write in about anything, coverage on all 3 nightly news programs on just how bad of a job the debate did, and every newspaper in the country having to admit it was terrible.

Yeah I'll take a few more fiascos like this.

Obama's more than ready for this. He hit McCain again today. He killed McCain a couple of weeks ago with, "I've got news for John McCain there was no al Qaida in Iraq until we got there." He's always tough on McCain. Obama can handle McCain.

What he, and pretty much all of the Democratic Party, didn't expect was for Hillary Clinton to act like the Republican in the PRIMARY. That's her problem. Every day her negatives go up further, more superdelegates flock to his side and we get a day closer to ending this thing. So now how's it working so far?

The Salon rules

1.) Always defend Hillary Clinton at any costs. (If you are in any way unclear about this ask Joan Walsh.)

2.) Always attack Barack Obama

3.) Always attack Barack Obama passive-aggressively. Don't state what you actually feel. Don't make any factual claims that can be proven. Don't make any statements that can be challenged. Use only innuendo.

4.) Always charge sexism. At every turn. No matter what. Regardless of whether the poster, member of the media, or whoever is male or female, young or old.

5.) If you don't see sexism yourself, definitely make sure to use it as a defense. State it's something you just "feel." (Note: you might feel sexism in real life and think this method is somehow degrading it. That is a secondary concern. First we must elect Hillary Clinton.)

6.) Mention John McCain as rarely as possible. We've set up a side forum, on the right hand side of the page called the War Room, where this is covered. It's some of our best journalism. Don't tell anyone.

7.) Never report any bad stories on Hillary Clinton. Ever. Ignore Tuzla, ignore Mark Penn, ignore the Colombia Free Trade Agreement, ignore her Kyl-Lieberman vote, don't ever under any circumstances discuss her having voted to authorize this war. Ever.

8.) Finally ignore anything Barack Obama does good. Particularly if he happens to defend Hillary at some sad excuse for an ABC debate, when the moderators bring up Tuzla and he says he doesn't care and they shouldn't either. Don't EVER cover this. It undermines rules 1-4.

Obama did run against it from start with his change campaign

But many Clinton loyalists were more interested in calling this stupid and naive than dealing with his underlying message that, "We need to change the culture in Washington, the same old politics of divisiveness and fear are not enough."

They chose to believe it was just Obama, a few middle and older confused voters, and a bunch of naive young idiots drinking the Kool-Aid. Turned out it wasn't.

This was precisely what Barack Obama has been talking about from the start. It's why he's running. People tried to say it. No one wanted to pay attention. Even when he started winning they still didn't really get what his message was. They preferred to think of it as a fad.

Well this column, and all of the debates, are precisely what Senator Obama's been saying. The reason why we need a new kind of politics. Respectfully, it's Senator Clinton that's hung on so tightly to the old type of divisive, gende/class/race/age based politics to try and rip the Democratic Party in two. That alone ought to be enough for you not to vote for her.
