All I asked was for the woman to justify her comment "Woman is the nigger of the world"?
And judging from the responses to the article itself, so far, pretty much EVERYONE HERE seems to have a problem with it.
If anything on Salon is going to cost Barack the election, you know what? We're already screwed. Pretty much everyone here knows they're well over the bend for Hillary. Anyone who is still coming here for objective analysis is sadly mistaken.
I should have kept my mouth shut. Obama's done a good job of this. Apparently sexism is the only sin in the world, and I'm just going to have to learn to live with comments like "woman is the nigger of the world" that are then followed by belittling the candidate.
I'm actually serious, I think he had a point. I apologize to all Barack supporters and from here on out I'll be silent.
To those poor fair individuals (and here I am being serious, pretty much everyone one else was reasonable) I apologize. Vote for the candidate you think is best. Please remember sexism is out there. I know most of us really wanted this type of campaign where it had nothing to do with gender or race. I only responded the way I did because a certain poster inserted a word I don't particularly love "nigger" somehow managed to apply it to Hillary and belittle Barack all in the same post. But again I apologize. Let Salon be Salon.
Anonymous I am accepting NONE of your suppositions.
Again, I would just like to reiterate that I was NOT the one who brought race into this discussion. However much of the blame can be placed on me for rising to the bait. I was simply disturbed by the earlier posters comment comparing women to something I will not mention.
Back to the topic: It's still a bad article, for the reasons enumerated by others who, fortunately unlike me, managed to keep more of their cool.
"Had It's post wasn't really about niggers. That misses the whole point."
Yes but you can't say something like this and not mean it. It's a meaningful word and one should be judicious or at least AWARE of how they use it. She simply was not.
Unlike some people here I WILL READILY ADMIT sexism is as large if not larger of a problem than racism.
All I said and I repeat is that if "Woman is the nigger of the world" you know what else is "the nigger of the world"? NIGGER!
Dispute that if you can.
This is the problm I have with some Hillary supporters. I address their concerns and answer their questions, but they have a bad habit of simply ignoring others questions. And they accuse Obama and his supporters of being the ones with no substance. A few of you people, who are not really reading my posts, but simply responding to a word are starting to piss me off.
Please at least try to read my posts and understand the logi.
" I didn't author the words "Woman is the Nigger of the World. John Lennon did."
I'm not saying you can't quote him I'm just saying he doesn't know what it's like to be black. I don't feel bad saying this, because women have been posting repeatedly throughout Salon about how we don't understand what it's like to be a woman and we can't really understand the level of sexism. Well guess what the same thing goes for being black. You don't really understand it and you don't really understand the level of racism.
So here's an idea quit trying to tell me about being black and I won't tell you about being a woman.
Alright again I'm not denying sexism runs deep. I'm not even disputing it runs deeper than racism (although this is highly disputable.)If you would have read any of my previous posts you would know this.
What I'm saying is she shouldn't have used a quote like "women are the niggers of the world" without more thought. Maybe you think I'm being stingy. Don't care. She should have thought that qutoe out better.
Does anyone know what candidate had the most problems with their voice?
John F. Kennedy. Apparently his Boston accent was so thick he could barely be understood. His campaign advisors told him to fix it immediately or he would not be elected. The difference? He worked intensively with a speech coach, by some accounts to the point where he almost came to physical blows. He is now remembered as one of the greatest speakers of the twentieth-century. If this is a real issue, with all due respect, possibly Hillary's campaign should have worked on it.
Here's a real story: John McCain's chief strategist (Charlie Black) works for a Mark Penn's (Hillary's chief strategist's) firm.
This is a story I would like to see more about. Strangely enough it is reported nowhere. Not on Salon, Daily Kos, Slate, Newsweek or even Time.
Don't believe me? Here's the link: http://www.americablog.com/2008/02/mark-penns-tangled-corporate-web.html
We would all like to see real stories reported but, with all due respect with the few journalists who are trying to do their work, we know this won't happen.
Before someone tries to tell me who is crooked and hypocritical let's examine who's really working for whom. This would be like if Lee Atwater were working for James Carville. But, sadly, I know it will never be fully reported.
