Better to be happy alone rather than miserable together.
[Read the article: If the first date isn't great, why go out with him again? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I didn't get the sense that the LW needed to be in a relationship in order to be happy. A lot of people are looking for a good relationship and intentionally avoiding a bad one. The LW is right to not just enter into any relationship. She should hold out for her ideal man and her ideal relationship.
If you are happy with your life, keep on living it, and be very careful about who you let in. If you bring in the wrong person you could destroy the happiness you worked so hard to create and it isn't fair to her, her friends, family, or child.
There are too many people who settled for less than what they "need" to be happy. There are also too many people who confuse what they "want" in their dreams with what they "need" in real life. Only the LW can ever know which is which, and it can be extremely difficult to discover the difference between her wants and needs.
As a non-bitter man, raised by women, I could go on for far too long on this topic (and in real life I have lost track of the number of discussions I have had with female friends seeking to improve their relationships), BUT, I am in the middle of my finals at my law school and I shouldn't even be online right now!
Good luck to all those looking for love and happiness.

There are so many levels of evil to this story I simply can't comment on them all.
[Read the article: Lawsuit: Rape coverup by Halliburton/KBR ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I would love to think there will be justice done at the end of this but I doubt it. I am a man who loves women, I listen to Intimate Partner Violence stories as part of my job, I hear stories of abuse from female friends, I hear male friends discount the whole subject, and I am at a total loss as to how to make men behave humanely towards women (and other men as well). Obviously no person deserves what this woman seems to have gone through.

Why reproduce?
[Read the article: Memo from U.S. Christian conservatives to Europeans: Have more babies!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why does anyone think we need to out reproduce the a certain group in order to "win" some alleged culture war? If we are talking about culture, and ideas, it seems a better use of time to NOT have kids and spend your efforts converting their kids to your way of thinking. There is a great subversive pleasure in turning kids against their parents.... I figure having two kids doesn't even guarantee that they end up as two adults who share my views. I am going to go off and find the intolerant and teach them to be tolerant. That will drive their parents crazy.

Couldn't agree more Elephantman
[Read the article: Gambling with science]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The gambling industry perverted science because trial lawyers did it first. They never would have done it if the trial lawyers hadn't started it. The trial lawyers never would have done it if the creationists had not made it seem like such a good idea. Furthermore, those perverting science would not have done it if people had not perverted politics, and religion, and sex. This is all common sense of course.
Finally, those trial lawyers who get damage awards in the millions of dollars, they only win because a judge or jury, as part of our constitutionally and democratically established court system, viewed those awards as justice. They could only make those awards because the different congresses allowed those awards to be legal or refused to make the awards illegal. All these people doing what the Constitution requires but not making you very happy. Perverts all I think.
Sincerely yours (well, not sincerely at all I guess).
Off to play the state sponsored lottery.
