Obama could commit even more under his reign.
I've heard rumours of Jennifer Granholm from Michigan being up for EPA head.
Take it from us here in Michigan, she would have made an excellent choice under George W. Bush for EPA head. She's run center-right on most of the decisions that she has rammed through the Michigan DEQ.
She runs scared of Dow Chemical, Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor (among many others). All three are sitting on HUGE contamination plumes in my area but thanks to years of backroom negotiations and renegotiations and prostration to the Chamber of Commerce and their minions, we're finally getting cleanup done but word came this Thursday that her office is forcing the MiDEQ and EPA to renegotiate with Dow Chemical yet again, a move that will likely stall cleanup for another year easy and possibly another two. Seeing her face behind Obama's was a shock...
I've railed about 'center right' and 'DINO' politicians here at Salon for over 3 years. Jennifer is exactly why!
On a related note: I think that Obama is going to be surprised when his direction is seen by the legions of people that voted for him. To follow the most libertarian and evil hard calloused right wing president in our history, and that of the civilized world with another 'moderate republican' direction like William Clinton isn't going to win him any friends except among the corporations and rich that will once again benefit from the lopsided politics...
Most people voted for Granholm because her opponent was Slick Dick DeVos of pyramis Amway fame and whos wife is related to Eric Prince of BlackWater and who has run the Michigan RNC for decades. Most people viewed her as a direct opposite to the rough shod and arrogant Engler administration. Well, ever since Gerald Ford's funeral and her wet sloppy kisses to his 'legacy', she's been unleashed in her meddling and interference on the part of corporate America in Michigan. BILLIONS of tax abatements for Hemlock Semi and ramming through seven (and possibly as many as nine) new coal fired power plants (one within miles of my home!).
She's not fit to lead the EPA. She's determinedly ignorant of the ills of chemical giant Dow and Hemlock and runs scared from anyone that threatens jobs. More like she runs TO them and offers them the store and the shirt off OUR backs.
I sure hope Obama doesn't veer right like Jenny has. He'll win reelection that way but not to many friends of those that voted for him...
And I assume that impeachment and investigating the Bush crime cartel are still off the table...
The quote I was looking for: Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
And sorry for the misspelling... Leonard, Leonard, Leonard...
Sunday mornings, CBS had the best show in my opinion. Charles Curalt, John Lenard and that guy from Nebraska. I loved 'Uncle Charley' and looked forward to John's comments on books and well just about anything...
Thank you John.
SO many people said that Jerry Falwell ended up in heaven. I hope not, because seeing him in the same heaven as you would make me sad... You were GREAT! Like when Harlan Ellison was on that show on Sci-fi. You both made me thing and thinking in the age of Bush isn't particularly healthy or appreciated...
You will be missed, John.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to sufferThe slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? — To die, to sleep, —
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, — 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; —
To sleep, perchance to dream: — ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despis'd love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would these fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death, —
The undiscover'd country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, — puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know naught of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought;
And enterprises of great pith and moment,
With this regard, their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.
Redemption? Redemption? Is that what you call that 'performance'?
1 the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil : God's plans for the redemption of his world.• [in sing. ] figurative a thing that saves someone from error or evil : his marginalization from the Hollywood jungle proved to be his redemption.
2 the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.
• archaic the action of buying one's freedom.
Catch that 'archaic' definition: "the action of buying one's freedom".
McCain wanted to disassociate himself from the evil that his campaign unleashed on this society. I don't think that you should be able to walk away from it that easy...
