The Wiretap bill we should be seeing

would not only restore the due process eviscerated over the summer, but also create clear lines for law enforcement access to the location field for cellphones and other wireless devices.

Realtime location tracking was mandated by the "E-911" legislation of the late '90s, for use when YOU dialed 911 in an emergency, but as built out, the architecture knows your whereabouts any time the phone's powered to receive calls. More, a record is retained, and you're deemed to have waived any privacy in this data history.

Is this package going to see normal Committee markup, or is it being rushed straight to the floor?

Politics, 2006

Never played the games, got a Myspace message from him in the summer of '06, when running against Sen. Herb kohl in the Democratic Primary, followed by a $1 campaign contribution. Seemed he was mostly impressed to fiingd a candoidate making opposition to censorship a signature issue.

GTA and the Primary race?

Senator Clinton launched her campaign with a call for censoring GTA. (Remember the presses with Lieberman, Brownback and Santorum?)

3 years later, the release of GTA4 presents a setup to renew the crusade, yet we get silence. What's changed? has she a newfound respect for the 1st Amendment, or is it simply that her handlers have discovered that 18 year olds vote?

Operation READ THE BILL

First, print the thing out, all 114 pages (pdf), and hand it to your Senators. Best if you can say "I've read it, I expect you to take the time to do so yourself." For extra credit, take a highlighter to the printout and mark up the sections you consider problematic.

Bring an accomplice with a vidcam. An admission that they haven't and won't read the bill makes nice youtube, come re-election time.

How to find your Senators' appearances? Start with their Senate and Campaign websites. Next, search Google News for "YourSenator'sname Parade" "YourSenator's name Barbeque" "YourSenator'sname Picnic" "YourSenator'sname fundraiser" If you don't get hits, make a Google Alert.

Senator Feingold plans to introduce 6 Amendments. He explains them, not in great detail, in Fact Sheet: Potential Feingold Amendments to FISA Bill. http://feingold.senate.gov/issues_fisaamendments.html

Print it out too, and when you catch your Senator, ask that they support them all.

If your Senator won't budge on immunity shift the conversation to the problems with the parts that go forward. If any Amendments pass, and the Senate approves the revised version, it throws the whole deal back to re-negotiation with the House, which would then have to start it's process all over again. The package can not go to Bush's desk until both the House and Senate pass identical versions.

Revoked Permit: re-issued?

In the spring, the St. Paul Parks Dept conducted lotteries for the spaces they were willing to issue permits for.

"Swift Students for Truthiness," represented by Polk County WI Supervisor Ben Plunkett, won, securing a permit for Hamm's Plaza for Wednesday and Thursday. I was to co-ordinted a "STOP GOVERNMENT SPYING" event 4-8 Thursday, under his auspices.

These were revoked 2 weeks ago, for unspecified "security" reasons. When we sued, the Parks Dept. stipulated that we could still use the space, but now with a limit of 24 people at a time. Meanwhile we're also offered Ecolab Plaza, 2 blocks farther from the Convention, for overflow.
