  • Wrong, Walter, Obama Lost It

[Read the article: Obama and Clinton fizzle in Philly]

Obama won by not losing? You wish!

To me he came across as a fumbling, dissembling, arrogant jerk who was terribly offended at being asked questions about his associations. And he still hasn't given decent answers. And now the Obamabots are in a huff (as in huffingtonpost.com) over the fact that he was even asked such questions. Gosh, isn't St. Barack above having to deal with such things?

Bush has taught us one thing: the character of a president is of utmost importance. He got into office as a kind and gentle compassionate conservative. He's nothing of the kind, as we well know. Why is it not legitimate to ask how Obama reconciles his inspirational rhetoric with his continuing association with Rev. Wright and Wm. Ayers? He has tried to have it both ways and gets petulant when people challenge him on that. I'm not confident that such a person can be a good, or even an acceptable, president.

As Hillary said, "You get to choose your pastor."

Question for Obamaniacs: would you have remained a member of that church?

  • We'll See If the Ad Makes a Difference

[Read the article: Playing the bin Laden card?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

We can talk hope and change all we want, but it's a scary world out there and we need someone who can hit the ground running on Day One. (Where have I heard that before?) Hillary is better able than either Obama or McCain to do this.

It's all up to the voters of PA now. If Obama effectively clinches the nomination after this vote -- by beating Hillary or keeping her margin very low -- he will have us in his hands. He will have to be able to win in November. I just think it will be extremely hard for him to do that, given the baggage he carries. And we will get 4 more years of Republican rule. He never should have run in the first place.

  • You Obamabots Are Whiners

[Read the article: Playing the bin Laden card?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You Obamabots actually think your hero was insulted at the debate. So do a lot of pundits, evidently. Terrible, they said. Demeaning. etc. etc.

But I will tell you this: it is vitally important to know who a man is who wants to be president, and a large part of that question relates to the company he keeps. Wright. Ayers. OK guys whom we rednecks just misunderstand. Your candidate thought it was insulting even to be asked about these things. Not relevent to the issues, he said, as if who this man is -- still very unclear -- were not an issue. Whiny. Petulant. Dishonest, frankly, comparing Ayers to Tom Coburn.

If Obama is nominated there will be hell to pay for all of this.

Of course, you could nominate Hillary . . .

  • Hillary Was Brilliant and Should Be Elected!

[Read the article: Clinton's surprising appearance on "Countdown"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

OK, not brilliant, but very, very good. She has command of the facts in all areas, and good policy ideas. I have no doubt that she would be the best president in a long time -- as Chelsea says, better than Bill. We are making a terrible mistake if we don't put her in the White House.

Note to Obamabots: the last guy I recall who ran a seamless campaign and raised oodles of cash was George W. Bush. There's not much evidence to support the notion that a good campaign makes a good president, or that a bad campaign makes a bad president.

  • EMStoveken, Go for Hillary!

[Read the article: Clinton's surprising appearance on "Countdown"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

EMStoveken, you stated that you'll be voting today in PA. As an ex-Keystoner, disenfranchised FloridaDem, let me urge you to go for Hillary. As you saw on Olbermann, she knows what she's talking about, she stays level, she is genuinely passionate about health care and bringing the Iraq war to a close, and numerous other issues. Put it simply: she would do the best job. And that's what this is all about.

Although I've supported Hillary for a long time, I, too, have been inspired by Obama's rhetoric, to say nothing of his life story. I just don't think that's enough by itself, and I don't see much else. Plus, his baggage -- Wright, Ayers, and perhaps things unknown -- seriously threaten to derail the Democratic effort in the fall. FOXNews ran a poll a while ago (which the other media did not see fit to report) asking which was worse: the Wright business, or Hillary's dissembling on her Bosnia trip. The result: 77% for Wright, 23% for Bosnia. There is more concern out there about Obama's baggage than the media is reporting -- or, perhaps, even recognizing.

  • The Writing Is on the Wall, Obama Supporters!

[Read the article: What Pennsylvania tells us]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What Pennsylvania tells us is that Obama can't win in the fall. Period. Not one big state, save his own, and maybe California and New York. All the rest would be up for grabs, with McCain having a clear shot at all of them.

You may have noticed that Republicans running in NC and maybe elsewhere for state and local offices have begun using Jeremiah Wright and other Obama negatives against Democratic opponents who have announced support for Obama. McCain apparently has asked this to stop, but even if that's genuine, he can't control it -- it is red meat which many Republicans will keep on using. It will be death by a thousand cuts for not only Obama but other Democrats, as I have been warning here for some time -- especially if McCain runs an intelligent campaign, which he is capable of doing.

We can lament until the end of time how nasty our election process has become. The better reaction is to take advantage of the best chance of putting a Democrat in the White House, which is to support Hillary.

Even now many Democrats feel that Hillary should get out because she is hurting the inevitable nominee. I ask this question of Obama supporters: since your candidate has displayed glaring weaknesses that would knock him out in the general election, why doesn't he get out and give the Democrats a fighting chance?
