If Obama's the Way Forward, a Bridge Back Looks Attractive
[Read the article: Hillary's bridge back to the 20th century]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's probably too late now to change anything, but the thing that has really queered chances for the Dems this year is Obama's entry into the race in the first place. If Hillary were the candidate now, she would carry her baggage (sniperfire, cattle futures, whatever) into the election, and she might or might not win. If Obama were the undisputed candidate now -- as he nearly is -- he will carry his baggage as well. The difference is that his baggage is a cement overcoat -- there is no way he will survive against McCain with the baggage of Pastorgate and all the racial consciousness stuff that goes with it. Obama never should have run without properly taking care of this problem beforehand. Now he will take us all down to defeat with him, and hoped-for reforms such as health care, and a reasonable resolution of Iraq, will just have to wait. It's tragic, really, and it didn't have to happen.

If She Said He Couldn't Win, She Was Right
[Read the article: Clinton denies she said Obama can't win]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If Hillary didn't say Obama couldn't win, she should have. He can't.
Anyway, Bill's been saying it, as we all know.

Not Hillary's Fault
[Read the article: "Richardson has never questioned Senator Obama's electability"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Earth to Notorious WES (and others) -- if Obama is nominated and goes on to lose the general, it won't be Hillary's fault. It will be Obama's own fault, for failing to put Pastorgate behind him in a convincing and honest way. Which he has NOT done. It will also be the fault of Obama's supporters, who live in a bubble and refuse to acknowledge the gravity of this problem. This ought to be a Democratic year, but he can still blow it big time.

Obamaniacs Don't Know What Negative Is
[Read the article: Clinton pollster urges senator to go relentlessly negative]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Obamaniacs who think Hillary has been negative have no idea what they're in for from the Republicans. The Clinton campaign has been effectively blocked from saying anything that anyone anywhere can construe as racist, and they have paid a price in attacks from Obama's campaign and the media whenever they have crossed that ill-defined line. Accordingly, Hillary has been totally careful about the Rev. Wright issue and has said very little about it.
The Republicans will not be so constrained. And it won't be McCain who goes on the attack, it will be surrogates and the independent swift-boaters. Obama's campaign will attack these things as racist, but it won't matter. People will listen to their messages of Obama's radicalism, elitism, fraternization with radical ministers, terrorists, etc.
If you think this won't happen, consider this: a bunch of guys with a serious attitude problem with Kerry in 2004 put together the swiftboat effort. They hated Kerry for whatever reasons. Don't you think that a radical, elitist left-wing inexperienced smooth talker is going to generate the same kind of opposition, and then some? There are people out there who think Obama is a Manchurian Candidate, ready to cave on Israel, ready to let the mad Iranian dictator get the bomb, ready to do all kinds of things seriously harmful to patriotic Americans. Obama may be better able to fight back against this kind of thing than Kerry was, but it will damage him severely -- perhaps enough to defeat him.
Of course, you could nominate Hillary . . .

If Obama's So Great, Why Haven't ALL the Superdelegates Gone Over to Him by Now?
[Read the article: Clinton pollster urges senator to go relentlessly negative]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OK, Obamaniacs, if your candidate is so wonderful, why haven't all the superdelegates signed up with him by now and ended this primary campaign? Two good reasons: one, they don't REALLY know what the voters think. With PA, IN, NC, KY, WV and other states still to vote, the possibility exists that Obama simply won't be able to close the deal with the voters overall.
But that still doesn't explain why the superdelegates haven't already tipped toward Obama and ended this thing BEFORE PA and the other remaining states. They could have done so, especially if they believed that Obama was a much stronger candidate. Still can. But they haven't.
Which leads to my second point: the supers haven't gone to Obama because they are afraid -- THEY, LIKE US, DON'T REALLY KNOW WHO THIS MAN IS, WHAT HE BELIEVES, WHAT FURTHER SKELETONS ARE IN HIS CLOSET, ETC. ETC. In other words, he is a heck of a gamble, and politicians like more certainty.
As a citizen and uncounted Floridian, so do I want greater certainty in a candidate. A lot of other people feel the same way, and many of them would vote against Obama even though they are Democrats.
Of course, you could nominate Hillary . . .

Blaming Hannity Is Stupid
[Read the article: Hannity's unfortunate role in the Democratic debate]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OK, Obamapersons, so it's the evil influence of Hannity that caused the Ayers matter to be raised in the PA debate! Wow! You think what -- that Ayers and Wright, etc. issues would just go away except for dirty journalists doing the bidding of rightwing hatemongers?
It's not as easy as that to try to make this kind of stuff go away. These affiliations have everything to do with what sort of president Obama would be -- who he would listen to, who would be on his staff, etc. AND WE STILL DON'T KNOW, DO WE?? Lots of people who are not rightwingers are asking these questions, as they should be. And based on current information, or lack of it, many of them will vote against Obama.

Dean's Statement Is a Firing Offense
[Read the article: Dean looking for superdelegates to decide "now"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just who is this squirt Dean? What right has he to insist that superdelegates commit now? Just days before an important, perhaps decisive primary in PA?
This turkey has to go. He is clearly biased toward Obama, which is out of line in his position as party head. He is also an idiot, as demonstrated by his own campaign four years ago, his position on the FL and MI primaries, and numerous other things. He should go back to being a Dr. in VT NOW!!
