Original article: A McCain-Lieberman ticket?

I wouldn't Count Lieberman out

The places that went for Hillary Clinton in CT during the primaries are the exact same people that stayed loyal to Liberman in 2006 - white working class. Many of these same people went for Bush in 2000 and 2004, are completely pro-war and rely on Fox news as their source of information. How do I know? Because this is where I live - in an old bastion of working class Connecticut know as "The Valley", a little slice of West Virginia in the middle of CT.

I could imagine Senator Lieberman on Fox news repetitvely talking about the Democrats not being serious about national security; how he was a democrat, but has now seen the light. The press loves Lieberman, so they would follow his every word and its got all the drama of switching sides. The media will just continue its narative about how bipartisan Lieberman is, and not really investigate his actual record or what he has said.

I see nothing but upside potential in this - where is the Republican base going to go? My father, a staunch Republican, says that he would vote for Lieberman. Sold correctly to the base, Lieberman on the ticket would give the appearance of reaching across the ailse to attract independents and working class voters.

Peeve

" All of this confuses white people mightily, far more than Barack's biracial status."

I am white. I am not confused. I have no problem with Michelle Obama. I do know that the Right will drag her through the mud and I plan to do what I can to dispell the myths amongst my friends.

I hate it when people assume that I harbor some kind of racism because I am white. I grew up in a racially integrated community and went to racially integrated public schools and I grateful for it. I never once heard the "N" word used in my home. When we lived in the south my parents voluntered to teach black folks how to read. My mother's closest confidant was black - they remained in touch until the death of the friend. I am tired of being painted with the broad brush of white racism.

Whiners

They should be positioning him as the comeback kid, just like during the primaries.

I agree its too early to pay attention to polls, but I do believe if they were in in McCain's favor they would be trumpeting them. It must pain the MSM to report these poll numbers, of their good friend, John McCain.

I was appalled on Sunday while watching CBS Sunday Morning when Bob Sheiffer did his teaser for Face the Nation. His words - "Off shore drilling; John McCain reverses course from his previous position and Barack Obama flip-flops."

McCain - Lieberman '08!!!1!

A real winnign ticket.

Interesting

Blunderdog,

Bush is not a gay-hater by his own admission, but it did not stop him from exploiting homophobia for his own electoral means.

UTR

It will all happen under the radar.

I always expect the opposite of what these people say.

If McCain cannot get the evangelicals

If McCain cannot get the evangelicals, which I doubt he will, he needs to reach out to more independents. Selecting Lieberman as his running mate will accomplish this.

Lieberman's Poll numbers down in CT

Reported in the CT Post today:

"Lieberman's approval rating is 45 percent. Seventy percent of Republicans polled approve of his performance, but only 26 percent of Democrats and 47 percent of independent voters approve."

The full article is here:

I don't think this bodes well for Lieberman's sway nationally. Right now I think the only peole that love Lieberman are the press, and particularly Fox News.

AA in [your state]

LW,

Go to teh Google and type "AA in [your state]". There are many people there that would love to help you. If you are physially addicted to alcohol go to detox center to dry out. The DTs can be fatal.

The framing of your problem could lead one to belive that if you could put 9/11 be hind you all would be well. THis is a fallacy. Your central problem is you choose to drink. Many of us have face trauma without drinking and life goes on. The booze is only a palliative. The 9/11 crap may be a smokescreen for other stuff as well. But you will never know until you put the booze down.

I wish you luck.

Don't drink, go to meetings, ask for help. be greatful when you receive it.

btbaby

you said:

esp considering that the success rate of these programs has been seriously questioned a lot over the years recently - countless studies have proven that people who attend 12 step programs have a far higher rate of recidivism than do those who simply quit on their own...

Do you have any data to back up this assertion?

Deregulation in CT is a disaster

My effective rate is 25 cents per kWh - there are numerous fees and surcharges involved.

The Department of Punblic Utility Control has become beholden to the utilites, not consumers. The only statements they make are justifying the rate increases sought by the utilities. Our rates have tripled over the last 2 years. Because so many are now conserving the utilities want jack up their rates again. The rates are based on their return on investment; they are guaranteed a big fat profit.
