Original article: The dumbing down of the GOP

Right wing noise machine

sure helps. I know people that rely on Rush for all their information needs. I can tell what he's been saying by what they are saying. Rarely do they research anything independently - intead they repeat what he said.

I figure he's been bloviating about a black man in the White House lately, based on what I've heard from one of his listeners lately. I'm sure just another one of his "jokes".

Proper Respect to Barney Frank

Props to Barney. O'Reilly is a blow hard.

Original article: It's all about McCain

Wisdom

Another "performance" by Sarah Palin got me thinking about John McCain's judgement. So much of what we've seen could have been detected had he spent an hour or two with her, speaking conversationally, asking simple questions. Its also indicative of the hubris of his advisors - they've come to beleive their own spin, and that they could manipulate the media to their ends. Had they truly evaluated her, I doubt they would have chosen her.

McCain is not fit for the Presidency.

Original article: Bushonomics, revisited

So if Bushonomics is a failure

Why are we giving the smae failed actors $700 billion to continued policies that will just lead to continued failure, without addressing the actual problem?

The Rs sure love Tex-Mex food

Is n't that waht the house republicans were eating last week when Sen McCain swooped into Washington?

So ironic that they love the food but not the people.

Now where can I find some green corn tamales in CT....

None of them acknowledges

That in the end the problem begins and ends with John McCain. Had he not waited until the last minute to decide, and not made a hail mary with the pick he would have alot a choices. They could have started coaching her in the spring; we would not be having this conversation.

Also McCain's age makes Palin's experience much more important - his running mate could become the next president.

I could list ways she could improve her "performance" but as a concerned citizen, I'd rather not help her.

I have to agree with the first letter(s)

Junk this bill. It never addressed the true problem.

Mrs O'Leary's cow might have started the fire, but the Chicago was made of wood. This bill only adds gasoline to the burning parts.

New Leaders please. New Leadership please. An honest discussion of facts and figures, not spin and fear mongering.

Good timing

I was thinking that blaming this mess on somebody in Orange County that didn't pay their mortgage is like blaming Mrs. O'Leary's cow for the Chicago fire. Sure, the cow kicked over the latern, but the city was just waiting to burn, and in the end that was the problem.

We need a fire-stop, no doubt, and a plan to rebuild. The current plan does not address those issues in the least.

Hey Katie - No More Palin Interviews

The first set of interviews have saved your career, asked good questions, demanded answers without grandstanding. Thank you.

But now you're being used.

You've done a great job, but the more she appears with you and does this crazy stuff, the more the right will claim its you using gotcha questions.

I don't know Ms Ifill's affiliation

Other than to say she's a Villager.

I stopped Washington Week when it bacame nothing but a rehash of "conventional wisdom" (aka what everyone is talking about at the cocktail party in Georgetown).

This debate was meaningless to start with. I'm sure the objective is to get it cancelled. Can't John McCain get the House to delay the vote on the Bail Out Bill so it steps on the debate? Or how about fillibustering in the Senate?

Original article: Time for a party-line vote?

The Right

Always seems to think they know what the Democrats should do.

I am expecting a new deal, much less dollar amount, congressional oversight, and no finance czar.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 06:37 AM

I don't think its settled in yet

The President received a stunning blow yesterday, and it was delivered at the hands of his own party. Think of it, if this is truly one of the greatest calamities we are facing in our time, and the president can't get his own bill through his own party, then he is truly a lame duck. Regardless of the spin that is applied, the republicans have lost the mantle of leadership, the "mandate of the gods" as it were and people sense it.

John McCain inserted himself into this, and undeniably made an ass of himself. He killed his run there, with an assist from house republicans.

BTW, don't f*ck with Nancy Pelosi.

Bush's Appearances

Just the number of times he's gotten on the TV about this tells me it stinks.

Everything from the administration is an emotional appeal,to fear and anger. I've called Dodd, Lieberman and Shays multiple times. I doubt Dodd will be reelected here in CT if this thing passes. He's been set up as the fall guy.

Dangerous Times

My impression is that Bill is positioning Hillary for 2012. They've hardly made a secret of their intentions.

What I find difficult, for me, on a personal basis, is that Bill Clinton does not share the same sense of urgency about this election. Like it doesn't matter who's President in January because Hillary's '12 campaign is more important.

Original article: President Bailout

I'm no fan of the Paulson Plan

I don't want to bail out Wall St fat cats.

The Democrats have been negotiating in good faith, and now McCain and the house republicans don't like the plan THEIR OWN PARTY has put forward.

Let the Wall St banks fail. Why should I pay to bail out people that were lending/borrowing at leverage rates of 30:1? They always clained they knew what they were doing, and they deserved the reward because of the risk. Stop shoving the losses on me. Since since people I respect, like Krugman, have said intervention is necessary, I've held my nose and go along. I still don't like it tho.

And I am a democrat.

Thursday, September 25, 2008 02:29 PM

I hope the republicans kill it

I think it stinks. I've called Chris Dodd multiple times to let him know so - I am one of his contiuents.

This is a no-brainer. Can the Dems not smell blood? Paulson, Bernake and Bush have all appeared nervous to me.

No Deal!

I'm calling Mssrs. Dodd, Lieberman and Shays to express my continued displeasure. No way can this deal go through.
