Considering we are so dependent upon them for oil, I always figure we don't do anything there without seeking their "sign-off" wheather its public or not.
I'm with you in all respects, uncluding the friends and family that think I am a crack-pot.
If there is somewhere to protest or do something, I'm there. I'll get to DC, New York or wherever, and I can guarantee at least 2 friends will come too. I hate seeing this happening and felling as if I am powerless to stop it.
I am outraged that the President commuted the sentence of Irving Libby. I have called my local newspapers, congrressman an senators to share this with them. The replican party is not the party of law and order. This just proves that they are not interested in accountability. This independent may never vote republican again.
Now is the time to impeach the president and vice president. They obviously have no respect for the law.
Thank you Keith - nice to hear someone calling a spade a spade.
Right now its too easy for the airlines just to add flights because they feel like it. Auctioning the take off and landing slots would provide an incentive for the airlines to consolidate flights and use larger aircraft. This would only work provided one airline did not "own" all the slots.
The positive side of the RJs is they provide non-stop service in some cases. I always happy when I can avoid a connection.
Another great analysis!
I am a full paying subscriber to the NY Times. When I read columns like this one I start to wonder if that $10.40 per week is worth it. Increasingly its people like me that are the Times' bread and butter and I'm tired of white house propaganda being delivered to my door as if its news.
I'm waiting for Endora to make an appearance.
The admen are the heroes....just like "Bewitched".
I find "Mad Men" heavy handed. All the period stuff comes off like a sledgehammer to swat a fly. I grew up in the era, many of the people depicted in the show would have been friends with my parents. My mother smoked through all her pregnancies, my parents drank, the cars had no seat belts and we didn't wear helmets on our bikes when we rode unsupervised to the local variety store.
She's been around long enough to know exactly how they are going to react. And I think she knows the righties will promote her now, figuring she can win over enough of teh electorate to win in the general election. I'm amazed at how many upstate New Yorkers have become fans of hers, particularly the repulicans. The press originally predicted her '06 relection was going to be a blood bath for her, but it turned into an easy election, with a nominal opponent.
If the neocons are hoping that the tired old "scandals" from 1992 are going to play the same way I think they have seriously underestimated and the electorate. She's made some really smart moves in how she relates to voters. She even turned the dumb-ass cleavage story to her advantage.
Its pieces like these in the Times that make me want to cancel my subscription.
In many ways Times Square in New York City is the media capitol for the country. It is said to be the most photographed location in the world. With their move to 8th Ave I find it ironic that the New York Times is no longer a part of the space it created, the entity the space was renamed for.
Highly leveraged hedge funds shlould be allowed to fail. These falks have said emphatically over the years that they want no regulation, they are sofisticated, and can afford to lose money.
The credit crunch is an illusion they are trying to spin so the federal reserve will bail them out. They should take this time to reform their industry from within if they are serious about avoiding regualtion.
The people facing the big problem with liquidity are the hedge funds that BORROWED HEAVILY against the mortgage-backed securities. These folks have resisted any regulation and oversight by insisting thier wealth and sophistication qualifies them for taking large risks. The value of the asset has declined and (rightfully) are putting a call on their obligations, and they don't have enough cash to cover it.
EAveryone suffered from the same wrong assumption - that real estate values would continue to rise.
I change the channel when Howard Fineman comes on for exactly the reasons Glenn cites.
Am I the only one who doesn't believe that it's a coincidence at all that the week that Fredo resigns this becomes national news? The story was under the radar for months and now, alluva sudden, it's the topic of national discourse?I was curious as to who tipped off Roll Call. I can only imagine its someone that can spy on all US Senators with no warrant.
While the media is running with story everyone is forgetting Gonzalez and the President is upping the rhetoric on Iran. Thank goodness for the internets......
Who supplied the tip to Roll Call for Larry Craig's arrest? I am wondering if its someone that can spy without warrants.
Jumbo loans are available, just at a higher rate, sometimes a full percentage point above a conforming mortgage, but I think this will come down once the dust settles.
I'm tired of reporters stating "No one can get a mortgage" while not citing a single point of data.
because I'm not one to gossip.....
Can we move on?
I think there are more important things to talk about while we are on the verge of a conflagration in the middle east.
