  • Not captive....captivated

Hume’s Ghost writes: "So I've learned my lesson ... If I'm going to say anything about John Edwards in the future I'll just wish he'd been killed in a terrorist assasination plot."…. by "liberals" [Coulter] means a handful of anonymous commenters at the Huffington Post…. It appears I was both wrong and being too generous to Coulter. As Media Matters makes clear, Coulter wasn't alluding to the comments from Huffington Post, but instead was making up a defamatory lie about Bill Maher.

Hume’s Ghost, do you have a link to the MediaMatters article? I know a lot of crap goes around the right-wing shriek-pit about Bill Maher, but Coulter and Bill claim to be good friends (I love Real Time, but this…..boggles…), so I would be surprised if she were going after Maher.

Orbitboy, good idea about the troll-driven donations. It would also be nice if for every illogical, authoritarian, self-serving, right-wing troll who pleasures us with his or her scribblings, one of us started up another progressive blog! Speak Truth to Trolls.

NewLeft writes: The money quote from the interview had Williams complaining that "someone in his pajamas can go online and have as much authority as me."

And yet Brian Williams gets himself on The Daily Show (his big giant head schtick, which, by the way, put me off the The Daily Show for good) to appeal to the very audience he shows so much contempt for, that is, those who seek information from non-“authoritative” outlets. And rather than honestly examine (with a healthy dose of self-reflection) the significant changes in information dissemination wrought by the internet, he lazily falls back on a moronic stereotype and implies that those of us who engage in the public blogosphere are gullible and lack the skills to discern truth from truthiness. Now that’s ironic.

To Williams and people of his ilk, we must be docile, passive consumers in all aspects of our lives. But suddenly, the news does not consist of noise and light emanating in one direction at the silent consenting public—Look! The screen has become permeable, and information goes in all directions. And Williams’s Big Giant Head just won’t have it.

Karen, I want to add another woman to your list: Naomi Klein at The Nation who does an outstanding job.

bebop-o, so relieved to not be greasy grimy guts! We insects are not quite so low as the guts. We are tiny but we buzzzzzz. We don't seek the Power, we don't seek to become what we distrust; our job is to be relentlessly noisy and aware and help in our small way to keep light shining on Power's dark and slimy guts. We see Glenn's brilliant light shine and we make a bee-line for it!

I can't help it. This fills me with glee and I don't care who knows it.

  • I hope

  • Keith hade me weeping

[Read the article: Keith Olbermann tells Bush and Cheney: "Resign."]

when he talked about habeas corpus. It was so powerful. And here he is again, saying what all of his peers in the MSM are afraid to say. So even though I am an apatheist, I have to say, "God bless Keith Olbermann."

  • A question for all you smartypantses

[Read the article: Yesterday's ruling on NSA warrantless eavesdropping]

I am flabbergasted. I read in the War Room that Bush is telling Taylor not to comply with the Senate's subpoena to testify about the U.S. Attorneys scandal.

From the article: "Taylor, who up until six weeks ago was the Director of the Office of Political Affairs in the White House -- she's also a former top aide to Karl Rove -- is scheduled to appear Wednesday. Earlier today, however, her attorneys emailed Sens. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt. and Arlen Specter, R-Pa. (the chairman and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, respectively) informing them that Ms. Taylor "expects to receive a letter from [counsel to the President] Fred Fielding on behalf of the President directing her not to comply with the Senate's subpoena."

Excuse my naivete, but I have to ask--

The hell? Can they just DO that??

  • Shills and Thrills

[Read the article: Tucker Carlson, stalwart defender of sexual privacy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    As Jon Stewart said,
    Tucker Carlson’s a dick.
He just gets so worked up
    About others’ pricks.
    Vitter’s prick wrapped in diapers
    He just can’t abide.
    But Tuck keeps the secrets
    Of those on his “side.”
    And that’s how they roll,
    Those Republican shills.
    They photoshopped Franken
    In diapers and frills,
    “Such tactics are fine
    To destroy godless commies,
    And those who eschew the
    Great Father for mommy.”
    And so the shills say
    When they’re with their own kind;
    Neither logic nor reason
    Can reach the hive mind--
    To argue against
    A diaper-swathed Papist,
    They must target Clinton
    As “Serial Rapist.”
