kitt, bamage, pedinska

Actually, yes it does. And, actually no it isn't. The point of using a euphemism is almost always to attempt to change the "fundamental nature if the" act in the mind of the listener or reader.

This is it, precisely, kitt. Someone referred to Matt Taibbi's great article on Fareed Zakaria (sp?) earlier. Taibbi's point is that Zakaria uses words to lull the reader into a nice comfortable place, where there is no thought of pitchforks and no discomfort with what our government or the corporate rulers are doing. Zakaria serves the same purpose as euphemisms; he cloaks the brutal truth in terms that don't pain the listener or reader. Taibbi is referring specifically to Zacharia's recent defense of capitalism in the U.S., which relies on a passive citizenry to maintain its privilege and the grossly inequitable division of resources. So, yes, as kitt points out, there is a hugely political dimension to the way certain words are used.

Pedinska, bamage, thanks! Bizarrely, I only noticed the dog-ass-jesus pic because it was right next to Obama in my image files. So it struck me: You think it's the messiah then you realize it's just a big asshole! That is Obama in a nutshell.

Original article: "Shut up, parents"

It's hilarious.

I know of many breeders that need to get over themselves and their precious offspring.

Lt. Dan Choi, the officer you may have seen on Rachel Maddow, has just been fired

because of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. He is continuing his fight and taking a petition to Nancy Pelosi. You can sign at sig. if you like.

That snotty-assed letter that Anna Christopher deigned to write to Glenn

was very telling. Ew. What different faces these people show from the ones we see on PBS asking us for money and cooking comfort foods.

She can't argue on the merits so she tells Glenn that he was out of line for not going through the correct channels?? And then accuses him of something he didn't do. What a load of shit.

Gotta love the old gal.

I do, heru-ur!

And to see Obama brush her off like some superannuated, worthless joke just burns me up inside. I am glad she put the reminder out there that he works for us.

Pedinska

That and her obviously ponderous and pendulous gonads. ;-}

And she makes sure everyone knows it! See pic at sig.

Flight of the Conchords

omooex, I believe that was the episode where at the end, they all go to the Australian Embassy to flip off the guard on duty?

Because you know, even if you resolve racist tensions with the fruit vendor, there will always remain the Australians to shit on.

That pair kills me.

Che

And just how were they? Characterized by torture and murder, eh? Dictatorship by an oligarchic ruling class, yes? Supported in their torture, murder and dictatorship by the Foreign Policy Establishment (and the White House) in Washington DC, correct?

Yes. I worked for an organization in Cambridge, MA that helped refugees from Central America during those halcyon days when teachers and labor organizers and priests and nuns and other such people (who were interested in the education or welfare of anyone outside the landowning or corporate or military elite) were considered enemies of the state and had to flee their homelands or die. Is Obama happily stirring up that kind of terror in Central and South America again?

Well, I suppose he has to make sure there is a good climate down there for western multinationals to enjoy their plunder. They must be able to do things like claim naturally flowing water as their own and then sell it to the poor at costs of up to half of their income. And if anyone hasn't heard of this--no, I am not joking.

I believe I have mentioned this before, but if anyone wants to read a good primer on how we have made Central and South America "safe for democracy" in the past, try Bitter Fruit, about the coup in Guatemala.

CliffsNotes on Greenwald

It seems like a lot of comment volume gets generated from a careless(or perhaps deliberate) misreading of Glenn's intentions.
Glenn needs to start using tags. He could tag this one "hypocrisy", "right-wing", "establishment-media hypocrisy", "partisanship", or whatever he thinks his main points are about.

Maybe one of us could write up a CliffsNotes guide each time a new blog goes up. The outline would not follow the standard format but would be something like:

1. About Greenwald's What if the Uighurs were Christian rather than Muslim?

a. Introduction

b. Main points

c. Points not made but imagined to be made by certain readers and argued about incessantly

d. Perceived side-taking by Greenwald: facts and delusions

e. Subjects covered

f. Subjects not covered but discussed in letters section as if they were covered, to the surprise of everyone

2. Summary, Analysis, and Original Text by Paragraph

etc.
