Reminds me of a song from the 'Nam era
[Read the article: American flag pins are for idiots]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Anyone remember the song "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore"? Back in the late 60's and early 70's virtually every retail venue from bank branches to filling stations was giving away american flag decals as 'premiums'. The idea became that the more flag decals you had on your car/bike/whatever, the more patriotic and virtuous you supposedly were.
I'll just give the final verse and chorus here (I think this probably counts as fair use, and hope the creator of the song agrees)
"I got my windshield so filled up with flags I couldn't see,
And I ran my car off-side a curb, right into a tree.
By the time they got a doctor there, I was already dead,
And I'll never understand why the man standing at the pearly gates said-
'But your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore!
We're already overcrowded, from your dirty little wars!
Now, Jesus don't like killin', no matter what the reason's for!
And your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore!'"

Fire and Police but no Medical?
[Read the article: Don't think of a sick child]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Curious. Apparently it's just fine to have government run policing and fire response. Those are rights I guess. But health care? Heaven forbid! That's a privilege, it seems. I don't get it.

Nothing new, unfortunately
[Read the article: Extreme acts of animal cruelty]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I suppose that this is the real origin of the proverbial 'mystery meat' in school lunches?

Oooh, we create a race of robots that then rebels against us....how....unoriginal.
[Read the article: Everything you were afraid to ask about "Battlestar Galactica" ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Personally I much preferred the Cylons to be alien robots. I agree with the mentions of Babylon 5 as an excellent, well written and no need to be continually 'socially relevant'. The original Star Trek took the (then) unusual step of making a few episodes 'relevant', and while it's still not all that common in TV dramas, at this point it's nothing new or revolutionary. And regardless of how good this show may be, the majority of stuff the sci fi channel produces is still...well...painful to experience. I mean, come on, "Rock Monster"?

I hope you're right
[Read the article: "We'll make you see death"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That is about us being in shock over this. But by this time how many of us are really surprised?
